Mr'C', they've literally just said that he didn't have a medical, so no point 2nd guessing what's gone on.

Just be thankful it's fallen through!

Maybe a further complication with his injury they didn't wanna get involved in and they both (club and Ross) decided to leave it and come back in Jan. Dunno but I do think it's a mixture of both and probably not as dramatic as Barkley running back to Liverpool mid medical naked in his hospital gown

Ah well didn't want him anyway

Need to find a new sport if you think Lewis Baker has the potential of Barkley

One year younger and has spent his career in the championship and in holland. While Barkley has combined 40+ goals and assists in the PL

If you think Ross Barkley is worth £35m of your Great British pounds Analog I think it's you who needs to follow a new sport.

It's obviously passed you by that Barkley has about 6 years and +150 PL games under his belt and still not lived up to all the hype surrounding him - Even many of his own clubs fans want to see him sold.

Baker has not had the privilege of Barkleys experience so yes Bakers potential is greater than Barkleys at the moment on account that Barkley has not realised his potential at the age of 23 and still not at the level required for a team aspiring to challenge for the league - I would not even expect Tottenham to be trying to sign him.

And what would a $purs fan know of Lewis Baker anyway - you've probably never heard of him, let alone see him play.

What Barkley needs to do, is go back to Everton and prove he has got what it takes over a few seasons!

You seem to forget that there is a very good reason that Barkley has had that many games in the PL while Baker hasn't

Your Rahul why is flawed. It's like pointing at a random championship player and saying 'he's better than x who has played in the PL his entire career because he hasn't been given the opportunity to play there'

Shane Warne once said of Monty Panasar,

“Monty Panesar hasn’t played 33 Tests, he has played one Test, 33 times.”

Much the same criticism could be said of Barkley. He was touted as the new Steven Gerrard when he was 17 but almost 7 years later has hardly progressed. At Barkleys age, Gerrard was carrying Liverpool on his back.

For £30m+ I do not want a player that has still to prove himself. The reason I say Baker/RLC have more potential is because Barkley has had his chance over 6 years and failed to progress, whereas Baker and RLC have not been given the opportunity Barkley has.

They may not indeed exceed what Barkley is but given the chance they may prove they do have that potential.

The difference is with Baker and RLC, Chelsea won't have to stump up 32 big ones to find out they've got a dud on their hands.

I don't really think you've grasped where I'm coming from thus far!

Because your logic is flawed. Whether you think Barkley has lived up to his potential or not, his level now is still far greater than Lewis Baker

posted on 1/9/17

Well seeing as you have no idea of Bakers potential, I'd say your logic and whole argument is flawed.

Even most Everton fans I know don't rate Barkley, yet you seem to think he's a mountain of untapped potential - if he was we should have seen it by now.

If you think Barkley has that much potential left to be unearthed, I hope you enjoy seeing him dislodge Eriksen in January!

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree with each others opinions!

It's nothing to do with potential. As things stand, Barkley is good enough for a top 7 PL side while Baker is only good enough for the championship

posted on 1/9/17

I don't think Barkley is good enough for a top 7 team and neither of us, especially you, know if Baker is good enough!

If Baker was good enough he would be playing at a higher level, it's that simple. He's 22 not 19. Will probably make a career in the PL but that's about it

Barkley starts for a top 7 team in Everton and attracted interest from Chelsea and Spurs so I think objectively you can say he's good enough

posted on 1/9/17

What seems to be going over your head is Baker plays for a club were you won't get a chance until you're almost 30 (and no, I'm not proud of that), whereas Barkley has had the good fortune to have been bought up at a club that have had to blood youngsters early!

Even many Everton fans don't think he's good enough to play at their level - they should know!!

I don't follow the opinions of everton fans, I can form my own

posted on 1/9/17

Well you seemed to have formed an opinion on Baker, yet I don't believe you have the first idea of his capability - please don't claim you've been following his career at Vitesse closely!

Assuming you haven't I don't see how you're qualified to pass an educated opinion on this!!!!

He's 22 and hasn't been deemed good enough to play at PL level yet. No PL club even wanted to loan him

Plus I've seen him play for England u21 and wasn't impressed

So you've seen loads of him then!

Say no more!

Barkley will without question have the better career. More PL apps, more PL goals, more PL assists, more England apps, more England goals, more England assists, more European apps, goals, assists

posted on 1/9/17

I personally think his career is going backwards.

I also mentioned Loftus Cheek, yet you've not mentioned him but only singled out Baker, is there anything that can be read into that?

I rate Loftus Cheek

posted on 1/9/17

We have 2 major talent's from the academy.

One is in this season's squad and the other will hopefully have a breakthrough season at Swansea and follow in his footstep's. Abraham is only the second player from our ranks i have been sure will make it, although having said that the other was McEachran

posted on 1/9/17

The reason I asked, was I rate Baker more highly than Loftus Cheek!

Certainly more dynamic!

I think this has come to an amicable stalemate now - thanks for the debate!
