The Mané red

Exactly melts. Can't understand why so many are struggling with that.

I get the impression Pep is pretty bewildered by English refereeing, particularly decisions not given. For that reason alone I'm pretty sure he would have expected a red for that, and as Boris says was being diplomatic. They probably had a bit of snap and bottle of wine after the game at Manchesters one restaurant.

Red card end of story

I can't remember which game it was last season but Fernandinho got a red for kicking someone in the midriff.

No intent, the ball was there to be won but I don't remember the same outpouring of injustice from Lineker and Shearer.

posted on 9/9/17

I wonder if they'd want a red had a keeper had booted either of them two in the face...

Lineker definitely I reckon, since he has the face of a man who's. ever been tw@tted.

posted on 9/9/17

Neither Wright nor Lineker would have gone for that ball.

Shearer would have gone for the keepers face even if the ball was at the other end.

Hilarious hearing Lineker would have gone for that

Mane had no right for going for that challenge boot first. Even if he got the ball and not the keeper it would still be foul play (not a red though).

Shearer would have gone elbows first. He only kicks opponents when they are on the floor.

Wrighty might have gone for it with his boot, especially if Schmeichal was the keeper.

One of the more obvious reds you will see.

He has no right to have his boot that high in the first place, even if he got the ball it was foul play.

But he didn't get the ball. He planted his studs into the face of the keeper with a fair bit of force. That is a red.

Absolutely agree! Very well stated.

I'd say it was a pretty clear red, it was a 50/50 ball, Mane risked it by going for it, had he got there first then he scores or Ederson takes him out and gets sent off. But Ederson got there first and Mane collected him, was accidental but studs to the face is a red card offence.

Was high risk high reward play, unfortunately for us there was no reward. Thankfully Ederson is fine as well.

If any defender had made that call it would have been an automatic sending off with no discussion except dangerous play

Had Savage done it against any of the 3 tenors it would have been reported and a possible 6 match ban.
Had Barton done it, that would have resulted in a court case and 6 months inside

Excellent point. Football is about timing and if Ederson had been a fraction earlier he would have taken Mane out and earned a definate red card.

Pretty much, I'm not mad at Mane for going for the ball, I think he should have gone for it with his head, had he then taken Ederson out it would only have been a yellow. But he risked it and had it come off we likely would have been 1-1.

It's a game of fine margins.

What bothers me is that klop insinuated he made a meal of it.

posted on 10/9/17

Hardly, if you're referring to the part where he said Ederson was up and about after the match I took that as people were making more of it because Ederson looked badly injured, but he's okay. I don't think he was putting anything on Ederson personally.

posted on 10/9/17

Ederson was still being treated about 6 minutes after the clash and Klopp was remonstrating with the 4th official and pointing at the referee presumably about how long the treatment was taking.

The 'Pool fans started booing at this stage and continued even when Ederson was finally put on a stretcher.

And we're the d!cks for giving James Milner a bit of stick...

Yes, not nice booing player with head injury.

Not surprising though having seen the abuse Paul Elliott got at Anfield

The challenge that "could have killed him" was nasty wasn't it. A plaster on his face and sitting on the bench at the end, but he wasn't at the ground receiving treatment. Head brace, oxygen mask, all for a cut.

Hardly any contact, he should have just got and pleaded with the ref not to send off the man who'd just kicked him in the face.

That will be the most photoshopped creation that is about on Facebook to date. The fact your willing to believe what is splattered all over the internet on Facebook is laughable in itself.

Bitterness. No its just called having common sense that a Facebook page set up by a Man City, for Man City fans completely goes against the Liverpool argument that there is nothing wrong with him by photoshopping an image to make it look bad.

Liverpool's Facebook page is no better though that is set up for fans. One or two have also photoshopped images as well from the game that favour Liverpool. It happens.

So it was theatrical makeup and there was absolutely no contact?

Glad we've sorted that out?
