Poch has made 1 League cup final in his first year and put out a full strength side.

He made the FA Cup SF in his third year and played a strong side, despite being in a title race (Note CFC rested Hazard & Costa). We were unlucky to lose.

Last season we lost away at LFC in a battle of the B Teams, season before it was Arsenal, also in a B team contest, and lost at home to Palace in the FA Cup in a game we rested Aldi & Eriksen.

IMO Poch has not disrespected any cup. He has put out teams that he expects are capable of winning . Some tough draws, some poor performances and the occasional poor selection.

We have a fecking squad. It has to be used otherwise we end up in the redknapp position of having to call on back up players who have spent most of the season sat on a bench.

His rotation has rarely been excessive or disrespecting the competition, but if the likes of Dembele can manage only 1 game a week, Nkoudou and others need a chance to develop and get game time then no better than in the competitions lower in our priority list.

How Poch would be torn to shred by some of you if he started Kane and Eriksen vs Barnsley and they got injured !

It is really horses for courses.

Ultimately, the priority for this club is the league. Winning it the main aim, with CL qualification the next. It builds the brand, brings in the sponsors, and allows us to invest in the players and stadium.

Unsecksy, but there it is.

I guess the domestic cups will be be a case of horses for courses.

Games such as tonight are exactly the type of fixtures we should always look to blood players, and give those on the fringes of the XI minutes.

The next round of 16 will also fall within a busy period of PL and CL fixtures. Unless we have tough opposition, it will be more of the same.

The quarters fall just after the CL group ends, and the semis and final are in the break too. That is when we will take it full pelt I guess.

For those that want full strength sides every games, it is a false econony.

If we did so, and progressed in all cup competitions through to Spring, we will end up with a fixture pile up. We will have battered the same 13 or 14 players, and will probably suffer from a spate of injuries and fatigue towards the end.

It has to be managed. That means giving players a rest and not battering them every available fixture.

Well said

The funny thing is that several of our fans spent all summer revelling in their moral high ground that we weren't spending £100m+ because we were...

'Developing youth'
'Growing organically'
'A long-term vision'
'Utilising the academy'

Yet I'd take a guess that a few of those same fans are now complaining that we don't field our strongest teams in all the cups. Well our strongest teams wouldn't consist of the youths coming through the academy that some were shouting from the rooftops about so you can't have it both ways.

People having a go at Poch for just being honest, and only doing exactly what most of the big club managers have been doing for years

Looks like it was actually Klopp that dismissed the Cups.
