I find the headline that he had been stabbed in his surgery a bit misleading though. My first thought was that was what always happens when someone undergoes surgery.

GB news viewers blaming Angela Rayner for the stabbing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why? I mean I know people will exploit anything to have a pop, but what's the reasoning here?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s look over there mentality
I loathe Tories and all they represent but fook me I’d rather argue than stab them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Tory sc*m" and such language has motivated the attacker in their eyes

Jo Cox was shot at her constituency surgery, Stephen Timms was stabbed, Andrew Pennington died trying to protect Nigel Jones from being stabbed at his. And now Amess.

Is it time for all MPs to have a ramped up security detail? Another dark day for our democracy

They’ve arrested the stabber

Is there a history of attacks on MPs prior to 2016 or is this kind of thing more prominent since the polarising politics started circa 2015?

I genuinely can't remember before then nowadays and have no knowledge of whether we saw attacks on MPs in other volatile political periods.

Absolutely tragic. No one deserves this regardless of political stance

I’m a bit late to this but has the offender been caught or his motive known?

The labour MP in east London got stabbed in 2010

He’s died, being stabbed multiple times at his age wasn’t gonna be a chance of him pulling through.

RIP to him.

🔴Paramedics tried for two hours to save the 69-year-old, but he died of his injuries.

Essex Police said a man had been arrested, and officers were not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.

Two dead MP’s in the space of 5 years, horrible day.

I know it happens every day, that people go to their work and don't come home, but you don't expect it in circumstances like this. Horrible news.

Pira and Inla killed tory mps and unionist mps, while uff and uvf killed irish republican political activists, but that was decades ago....in England and NI.

I'll never understand the mindset that causes someone to do this. If you dislike your MP or disagree with them, then you go to a surgery and challenge their policies, possibly even shout at them.

To go with a knife with the intent to harm is sickening.
