You live in a city with one if the best public transit systems in the world. You work at a place with a tube station in it. FFS why do you need a car?

The nearest tube station that goes to Heathrow from my house is 35 mins away, I work from 5:30am sometimes.

Although worth noting re masks; they are still required to be worn inside in scotland, but Scottish case numbers similar to rUK. Not that folk are necessarily following the protocols though, I seem to be the only one in Morrisons wearing a mask these days.

indoor socialising seem to be the biggest spreader mask or no mask.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye was looking at a thread (actuarial covid group of course) noting that the lack of indoor distancing is a big contributor atm.

On the mask usage I thought this was a particularly interesting paper;

As close as we have to a controlled sample

Yeah, it’ll never go down below £1.30 now.

When I started off behind the wheel it was 79.9p

Pretty sure It was 125 last time I topped up

Guess it just makes electric cars more economically viable though imagine if you had bought a new car in the last 6 months and went ICE ffs

Aye looking very hard at a hybrid. It would cover 90% of my journeys and work out cheap enough. I think also getting a charger in your driveway only works out at like £150 after all the grants.

Yeah, I think I'd go full electric at this point, but I understand why people want hybrids..

For me, I couldn't really see myself doing more/anywhere near the 250 miles in a day, if I needed to travel that far I'd take public transport, if that weren't an option, I think it's sensible and safe when driving those distances to take a 30 minute break at a services anyway (in which you can recharge the car)

But I totally get that hybrids are a great initial way for people to transition,

I'm testing driving an electric car and a plug in hybrid car this weekend. Used cars are never going to be worth more than they are now, so want to trade mine in and move away from diesel.

😂😂 I meant the special charge your car rapid charger stand. Think the hybrid does about 30 miles on just leccy which is more than enough for most trips.

I didn't realise that some of Nancy Pelosi's staff were hiding in a room next to her office when the Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building. Fortunately, they couldn't open the door and gave up thinking there was nothing there.

That must have been terrifying.

.@JacindaArdern and I have agreed a new trade deal that will help both the UK and New Zealand build back better from the pandemic.

Our two countries share deep ties of history, culture and values, and I look forward to the next chapter in our friendship.

The deal will offer the UK no discernible benefits. But is being implemented as a stepping stone to CPTPP.

Given the deal is predominately focused on removing agri tariffs, the NFU stated it "offers nothing in return" for British farmers.
