Pretty sure we have some of the most expensive public transport in the world. I also believe no small amount of the profits from running them subsidise the public transport of other countries. Hilarious really.

We do, the Dutch state rail operator three times as much track in the UK, as they do in their own country

A lot of our water supply is the same..

YouTube has loads of videos about the Irish people's response to privatisation of their water. They managed to stop it.

A 22-year-old Kansas man has pleaded guilty to federal charges after drunkenly shutting down an entire region’s water system in March 2019. Wyatt Travnichek, a former employee of the Post Rock Rural Water District in Ellsworth, is expected to serve a year behind bars on charges of tampering with a public water system and reckless damage to a public computer during unauthorized access, The Wichita Eagle reports. Prosecutors say Travnichek cut off the water supply at a plant that serves about 1,500 customers after remotely accessing the control system. He had resigned from the water district about two months before the drunken act of sabotage. “The defendant said he was so intoxicated he didn’t remember anything,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Kenney told a judge Wednesday.

At least we've passed the 50,000 new cases mark so they can reset their metrics. Only one day with cases above 50,000.

76% of 5-14 year olds have now been infected according to the MRCs latest model update. Those saying protect the children can shut up now. Over 3/4 of them have had it and barely anyone noticed a thing.

Well when “Freedom Day” was announced sage predicted we could see up to 100,000 cases daily. The government were ok with that so we’re only half way there

July: Sage predicts 100,000 cases a day
October: Johnson says high case numbers are in line with predictions
November/December: Johnson says ‘well, of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing’ when accused of acting too slowly to ease pressure on the NHS

*Warning - anecdotal!*

One branch of the wife’s family were all infected earlier this year (parents and two kids). All seemed to recover OK, but a couple of months later one of the kids ended up in intensive care.

She’d been complaining about feeling tired and was moping around a few days. Parents thought nothing of it, and sent her to bed one evening crawling up the stairs because she was moaning. Dad thought it was a lazy tantrum (I think she’s about nine years old) but went in to check on her later on and found her delirious.

Long and short of what followed: ambulance to hospital, intensive care for a weekend, another week in hospital stabilising her, and a type one diabetes diagnosis.

Thankfully she’s stable now, but a life of a previously perfectly fit and healthy nine year old has been transformed. Doctors can’t say it was a direct result of COVID infection, but there seems to be growing evidence there’s a link.

^ Further to that, I won’t describe exactly what was happening when her dad found her beyond saying that she was out of bed and moaning that she was “looking for the water”, but it sounded like some kind of facked up scene from a horror film.

Must have so much worry and guilt

I personally know of two people who caught covid and have been proper diabetic ever since. It seems obvious that covid triggered that.

I've heard of others catching covid and developing diabetes-like symptoms which disappear after a couple of weeks or so.

Laura Kuenssberg is in talks to step down as BBC political editor after six years and become a presenter on the Today programme as part of a major reshuffle of senior on-air staff, individuals with knowledge of the negotiations told the Guardian.

Although the deal has yet to be signed off and there is no confirmed timeframe, her departure would leave a vacancy in one of the most powerful positions in British journalism at a time when the government is still negotiating the future of the BBC licence fee and trying to shape its news agenda.

Oh no, who are they gonna get to lick the Tory’s boots now??
