Well because of our undemocratic system of voting, it’s all we have to go off on. I mean a crap party like the Tories can increase their vote share by 1%, or get 43% of the votes and win an 80 seat majority.

The global coalition for transparency and anti-corruption has put the UK "under review", heightening concerns about the government's commitment to openness following a series of scandals.

In a letter to the government, seen by Sky News, the Open Government Partnership said the UK had failed to live up to its pledges to improve transparency and accountability.

The rare intervention means the UK will become the ninth of the international coalition's 78 members to be placed under review, joining a list that includes Bulgaria, Malawi, Malta and South Africa.

My oh my, how the mighty have truly fallen indeed..

I agree that the Gov should, and could be more transparent. But the same could be said of other administrations.

Could be social media etc (enhanced scrutiny). But they don't help themselves by treating the electorate for fools.

Saw this the other day, and whilst the article (and site are hardly unbiased) the Environment Secretary has claimed (falsely) that the EU has banned UK shellfish exports, and has been campaigning for the "ban" to be lifted as more and more UK shellfish businesses struggle to survive.

He even wrote to the Commission stating:

“We can see no scientific or technical justification for this change and the news was conveyed to us rather casually and after the event. This is not in the collaborative and cooperative spirit in which we wish to work together going forward”

However on the 10 Dec last year he wrote to stakeholders (prior to the TCA being agreed) informing them that the export of live molluscs/shellfish from the UK into the EU would no longer be allowed. Which the Commission pointed out to him in their response.

I do get a ridiculous amount of annual leave. Sometimes I spend 2-3 months a year in the UK. It's not like I never go back.

A year ago today, after finally attending COBRA and being warned of the seriousness of the virus, Boris Johnson said “I’m shaking hands continuously. I was at a hospital the other night, where I think there were a few coronavirus patients, and I shook hands with everybody.”

Budget announcements still coming, even on the day: Chancellor says the legal limit on contactless payments will rise from £45 to £100. The disappearance of cash continues apace.

Think that (£100 limit) has been on the cards for some time.
