On the trans activist stuff, I'm not too clued up on the latest literature but instinctively it feels like it runs contrary to a lot of the goals of the modern feminist movement, which has been to try to break down the idea that there is such a thing as set or innate gender roles. I guess that's where the whole trans vs TERF twitter beef comes from.

I tried looking up some answers online but didn't really find any compelling arguments (yet) to explain how there's such a thing as a male or female gender identity while at the same time gender is a social construct.

I guess the other confusion I have is that if transgenderism is an incongruence between birth secs and birth gender, then why should the natural solution be to change the birth secs? Should changing birth gender not be an equal focus?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a huge conflict and contradiction.

Labour MP Zarah Sultana claims structural injustice over covid affecting BAME communities.

Bringing race into it AGAIN. These people must enjoy being made to look like fools.

Notice the subtle change in language by the way, structural injustice now rather than structural racism? A poor attempt to make it look like they’re not just making it about race (which doesn’t add up for several reasons one of which Kemi Badenoch makes) when all they mention is racial groups, that’s all they ever mention. Never cultural factors or socioeconomic factors, you know the real reasons for the differences.

Desperately seeking structural racism/injustice to keep emotions running high and making people believe there is a huge serious problem in this country.

You may fool the yanks with this strategy but most of us are smart enough to see this for what it is; pathetic race baiting to manipulate people for votes.

Absolutely abhorrent to use racism for political gain and anyone who swallows up this garbage are incredibly naive pawns. Thankfully the minority.

SatNav, you say more to do with socio-economic reasons than race. Does this affect poorer white folk
Has anyone done a survey broken down by income levels as opposed to race?

Fair play to him, this is the first decent thing he has done since trashing and trying to change Christianity. Also opened my eyes to how big a Christian population Iraq had and how far back it goes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that I’m aware of but I’d imagine it’s out there somewhere but there isn’t an obsession with socioeconomics like there is race so there is less information out there.

All of the evidence shows is that certain groups are fairing worse than others. Indians doing better than Bangladeshi, African vs Caribbean and so on. It therefore cannot be structural racism or injustice, it simply can’t.

Here’s some articles I’ve managed to find

https://www.jrf.org.uk/blog/covid-19-greater-health-risk-people-low-incomes-we-can-give-life-line

https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fsoc.2020.00047/full

https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n376

Exposure to infection is unequal. People in precarious, low paid, manual jobs in the caring, retail, and service sectors have been more exposed to covid-19 as their face-to-face jobs cannot be done from home.3 Overcrowded, poor quality housing in densely populated areas have often added to their increased risk.4 Poorer communities have also been more vulnerable to severe disease once infected because of higher levels of pre-existing illness. Increased rates of infection have led to greater loss of income linked to disruptions to work and job loss, but the immediate financial pressure of covid-19 has gone far beyond this.

Daras K, Alexiou A, Rose TC, Buchan I, Taylor-Robinson D, Barr B. How does vulnerability to covid-19 vary between communities in England? Developing a small area vulnerability index (SAVI). Social Science Research Network 2020. [Preprint.] doi:10.2139/ssrn.3650050

Yet all Labour come out with is structural bloody racism, it’s furlong hatred and trying to increase division between people when there is already enough anyway. Fighting for the poor isn’t enough for these people, they have to create a false narrative of structural racism to ‘fight against’ too. It’s embarrassingly poor and incredibly transparent.
