Read that beeb article mere moments ago. I am not sure how this is gonna play out. Surely they can't nail an ex president that hard?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing will happen to him, at worst he won't be able to stand again

Morning mate.

I don’t know if you spotted the link to the Mariana Mazzucato TED Talk above? It’s an introduction to her work on debunking public vs private myths, and I imagine right up your street.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just got around to watching it. Great talk

The bit about the state retaining equity in its developments is really key to me, and is the thing that annoys me most about the Nuclear plants we are currently building, somehow we assume almost all of the risk, have none of the reward then pick up the storage bills for the fuel.

Sat Nav would have like that talk too, we talked at length about socialist/capitalist innovation.

What’s all this about Charter Cities? Are we all going to be living out Robocop in a few months?

Is that basically not the Nixon defence of "it's not illegal if the President does it"?

Cause I'm pretty sure even the President can't, or shouldn't, be able to declassify nuclear documents
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Acting presidemts can declassify documents if they request approoval of national archive offishuls

Trump did not do that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And he hasn't been the president for nearly 2 years

What I like about her (and a lot of monetarists in particular seemingly don’t) is that she isn’t really interested in classical theory, favouring an empirical approach interrogating data and case studies, and that in doing so she’s facking rigorous.

Neoclassical economics is built on theory, built on theory, built on theory, built on assumptions, which economics students through financiers are still parroting like it’s gospel despite decades of evidence to the contrary.

“You shouldn’t meddle with the markets!” Well, the data says we should.

“The public sector is inefficient!” Well, the data says it isn’t.

“The private sector is the root of innovation!” Well… you get the point.

A fun 21st century development is going to see neural network driven AI running ultra powerful simulations explain to us that we’ve been doing some really, really facking stupid things in free market supply-side policymaking over the last 50 years, and offer us some better alternatives.

Harari thinks this will be a disastrous development, because it’ll eventually see us lose understanding, control and even sight of macroeconomic decisionmaking (I mean, we could actually have public policy discussions about these things before we decide to allow them to actually take or even inform decisions )

But despite being absolutely petrified of AI in other ways, I’m not so sure.

AI terrifies me to be honest, probably because I largely don't understand it.

Partially because you see news like the recent meta chatbot and it's machine learning,

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2022/08/11/meta-chatbot-says-boss-mark-zuckerberg-is-too-creepy-and-manipulative/amp/

Put crappy data in, get crappy data out.

As for the rest of your post I'm completely in agreement with your statements, and if there's an inefficiency in the public sector, it's completely demonstrated in the TED talk, a lack of equity.

I've mentioned on here a few times that we should be investing in green tech on such a basis, either with product when production starts or equity in the business to further fund future products.

Starmer in the news today, calling for an energy price cap freeze.

Time for the people complaining about him not being visible to now complain about him trying to influence government policy whilst parliament is in recess.

Aye there's a bit of Darwinism going on but it's the lies of MTG and Matt Gaetz who need to be informed of the danger of their rhetoric and stood down/prosecuted if necessary

Even here we've got idiots like Farage saying the raid to seize stolen nuclear documents is "politically motivated"

Has anyone seen the screenshots of some of the ads running on Truth Social?

Some examples:

- Vax-Dar, a ‘vaccine radar’ for identifying people who have been ‘tainted’ by a COVID vaccine

- Mike Lindell’s ‘My Straw’, a straw made with 50% *extra* plastic to stick it to ‘woke libs’ who are forcing people to use paper straws

- Patriot Powder, a protein powder “guaranteed to make you more patriotic”, with the added bonus that it is flavourless and odourless, so you can “mix it into the drinks of your liberal relatives and make them see the truth.”

The idiocracy is here and it is very real.

I did see Lavern Spcier who's attempting to get nominated for Congress claim last week that there are no pronouns in the Bible and that she herself has never used pronouns in her entire life

So much of what's wrong with the world is simply lack of education I feel.
