Oops you’re right. Apologies Ginger and ty Dazza.
To be fair Labour themselves have already said even it ends up not saving anything, it's better if more pensioners now realise they should be on pension credit and sign up.
I agree with that because it'll mean more are actually getting the help they need.

Take feedback and amend the policy if necessary
Enact the policy.
That's exactly why they announced the WFA change so early, because to do it when winter was starting would not give some enough time to prepare

Hes not taking 300 off pensioners is he. Hes just not giving it those who can do without it.
--------------------------------------------------
That is incorrect, the criteria used is way off the mark as it affects a huge amount of people who jsut rely on State Pension not just the better off ones.
It was a real eye opener to me when my Mother hit 65 as to what she was going to still have to pay for. Things like dental care, opticians visits, even Council Tax remained the same as if she was still a person of working age.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuel payments are not part of the state pension. This is an extraordinary payment on top of the pension due to Ukraine war. Apparently. What you are talking about is that the pension is clearly not enough inline with the cost of living. Which is a different discussion. Nobody in their right mind disagrees with that. Except Bademoch probably.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, it’s an extra payment that pensioners factored into their income and is now being removed.
The problem is that people on such a limited income have little room for manoeuvre, it’s not like someone in their 70’s can just work more hours or pick up some bar work.
I suppose they can cancel Netflix though

"The problem is that people on such a limited income have little room for manoeuvre, it’s not like someone in their 70’s can just work more hours or pick up some bar work."
2/3rds have assets, in housing, they can use to release funds should they need it, 1/3rd have assets worth more than £1m.
It makes sense to stop paying WFP to 11m pensioners whether it's needed or not and concentrate payments to those who do need it, even if it doesn't end up saving money.
Navigation of the benefits system is a hangover of the previous lot who made it intentionality difficult by cutting staff and adding hoops to jump through. Labour are mitigating this by hiring more staff to process pension credit claims.
Anyone know what the critera for claiming pension credit is,how much income must you have before it kicks in?
So many Tories crying about the Mauritius island story on Twitter, it’s gorgeous.
Their previous empire mentality is shrinking and they can’t stand it, despite these negotiations mostly taking place when they were in power.
James Cleverly has criticised Labour and called the decision weak.
Have a guess who was foreign secretary when these talks were initiated in 2022?
So according to Wiki there just over 11 million OAPs in UK. Will they remove this fuel subsidy for 11 million? Seriously doubt that. Means testing? Why not?
Universal basic income would eliminate all of this

Really? People now in their 70s would have been encouraged to save, few would have had access to work or even private pensions if they were in Blue Collar jobs,
A decade of low interest rates will have affected them as low rates are no hedge against inflation.
Anyone in their 40s now would be a mug not to make provisions for later on in life but it’s a bit crass to criticise a generation who were lead to believe the state would provide for them if they worked hard for 50 years

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Disingenuous rhetoric.
Cleverly knows this is the opposite of a weak decision. (It was also necessary under international law and inarguably the morally correct thing to do.)
The only argument of any weight against what has happened wrt the transfer to date is the exclusion of the Chagossian people from the negotiations. Hopefully the government of Mauritius treats them better than the British have.
