theresgonnabeashow,
i'll take another run at it .
Oh , and apologies in advance re my poor grammar/syntax .
Most people in R.O.I. talk a good show in relation to Irish unity . A big display of puffed out chests in Lansdowne /Croke Park belting out e.g. Soldiers Are We is all well and good.
But , it doesn't mean a hill of beans , if, H.M.G. gave notice of intent to pack the briefcase in the morning and cruise on out of Belfast Lough .
Dublin would be on it hands and knees , begging, them to stay .R.O.I. cannot, will not , be able to afford it .
Far from defying the British Government , Dublin kowtowed to them, shamefully, from the beginning of The Troubles.
From the legislation restricting free speech in the wake of the 1972 bombing [ in which a young Scottish bus worker was killed ] to the biggest single day loss of life in the Troubles in 1974 , Dublin has mouthed platitudes .
However they tip the hat to London, even in the wake of such as the atrocities above, each and every time .
You say i'm confused by geography. I can pinpoint the exact locations of every one of the above .
One other thing. You haven't specified your definition of , racism , yet . Apart from , strangely, suggesting that it was nothing to do with skin color .

Ulster Freedom Fighters and Ulster Volunteer Force decide to drop the use of, "Ulster"after Barry and tgbas query definition😎😎

Was this after they got off the phone to Arlene today?

Get that hardo border up👏

Interesting you should say that as that's what I seen and heard today from various people on the shankill. I said it all along the no no no DUP me me me party wants that despite the absolute carnage that'd cost.

Its amazing. It really is. You had an unbelievable opportunity today, an opportunity Scotland could only dream of. To stay in both markets and remain in the UK. But it wasn't British enough for you and thats all that matters. To hell.with the people and the majority. May should call your bluff.. Bring on CorbynUnionism is finished.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Calm down bazza. The UFF were busy today, and Arlene no longer takes their calls, I hear.
You say today's deal was not British enough for me, thus implying you know my mind and obviously yet again ignoring All of my posting.

You are jumping to conclusions as this is stage managed brinkmanship, and I fear yet again you go tribal on this.
Yes Minister deals are done behind closed doors...wait and see before letting those green Jets aff full blast.

Your norrthern brothers and sisters welcome your love and concern though👍

You voted DUP so they're your representatives. I fully respect they dont represent the majority. Thank God.

Ok ill humour you..

Dublin would be on it hands and knees , begging, them to stay .R.O.I. cannot, will not , be able to afford it

It is indisputable that as it is now stands its very expensive.. However, reports have returned that it would actually make money in an all Ireland economy. Very good money for the benefit of all.

So they should. What is really tragic is that NI could've been in the position to benefit enormously economically from "special status" But DUP's choice is "flags and flatulence" over prosperity and pragmatism. Disgraceful.

Agreed, it is indisputable that it's very expensive. So much so that the great and the good in Leinster House would, well, be on their hands and knees begging H.M.G. to stay, if a declaration of intent to withdraw were made [ S.F. exclude, i'll grant you . ] .
I'll also grant you some economies of scale in e.g. utility providers.
But , what , returning reports , have come to the conclusion that there would be a net economic gain for R.O.I. or N.I. with unity ?
I think unity would be great if it meant more food on the table for folks north and south. It just aint so .

TBH Miller its a small insight to what the rest of us have had to put up with from them for many years.
They believe in a young earth, they've been quoted as saying homosexual shex is a worse sin than child abuse. There's many many things about them that should raise eyebrows now especially that they're in power. But for now they're inflicting financial suicide on a majority of people in NI that didn't even vote for them. May should tell them to gtf and call an election because believe me the UK in 2017 with Brexit does not need these gobsh1tes calling the shots. It won't come to that though as Corbyn is the DUPs worst fear. It's a great a pity they have made your PM look like a complete mug to the rest of the world. How the EU can respect her word now is beyond me.

A united Ireland could result in a near €36bn boost to the island’s economy within eight years of unification, according to a study.

Seen as the first major examination of the potential economic effects of an all-island economy, the ‘Modeling Irish Unification’ report — undertaken by Canadian consultancy KLC and University of British Columbia academics, who have carried out similar reports on German and Korean unification — suggests “significant long-term improvement” in the economies of both the North and the Republic resulting from unification.

Its publication is set against the backdrop of continuing debate around Irish economic growth and the looming ‘Brexit’ referendum.

Report contributor Marcus Noland noted: “Northern Ireland is falling ever further behind the Republic in terms of economic development” and said future relations between North and South “potentially could become more problematic due to the possibility of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU”.

The North would particularly benefit from unification — with its exports initially rising by 5% and long-term GDP per capita increasing by 4%-7.5% — after adopting the euro and the Irish tax system; while the Republic would benefit from barrier-free access to the Northern market.

The North would also see greater openness to foreign direct investment, the authors note, and diminished trade barriers between it and other eurozone members.

It would see improved economic development and salary levels while the Republic would benefit from improved economies of scale for investment.

Lead researcher Kurt Hubner said the study points to “strong positive unification effects”.

“While these effects occur in a static global economic environment, under ideal political conditions, they underline the potential of political and economic unification when it is supported by smart economic policy,” said Dr Hubner.

“GDP in the Republic could rise by €30m to €152m in the year of policy implementation. In total, Irish unification could boost all- island GDP in the first eight years by as much as €35.6bn,” the report concluded.

Oh but i do mind , BB . You're gracious enough to dig out that forecast by those academics in B.C. , so go raibh maith agat
Pie in the sky, however.
Taking , but one, of their caveats," under ideal political conditions". R.O.I. has a defense budget so stressed that they cannot adequately respond to severe weather conditions with air support. The loss of that air crew off the west coast can be directly attributable to this.
And with a straight face you're telling me that they could fund the defense budget needed to deal with an uncooperative and sizable potential unionist minority in the, re-claimed wee six ?
Would you place a fiver on a 36 billion boost within eight years of re-unification, never mind the house and lower forty acres ?
Dream on .

NI was given speshul status by the EU, Dubs and May yesterday, so now Scots, London, and Welsh want NI type soft brexit deals,,so well done DUP on helping the many, Not he few👏

If NI was outside the rest of the UK, Barry, where do goods coming from Scotland or Liverpool to Belfast meet customs?Did you think of that,,as if there is no NI and Irish land customs border as here HSS to be a sea one, with goods from GB and EU checked at Belfast ports, thus creating problems there, and separating us from the UK......could that possibly have been your preferred option,,lol?😉

And I hear Dublin did not even talk to the DUP or any unionist about the deal they were pushing for NI yesterday, through the Eu and May team, ya little sneaky rhebels😁

The DUP have a few conservative members like SF, SDLP,,alliance, FG, FF, Tories etc and you have taken the quote about homosexuality from one guy to tarnish everyone.
SF are now squabbling about abortion and lgbt issues, and if you have to quote one right wing prod, at least air the RC church view on moral issues.Only last week there was an all island anti abortion coastal mass prayer against abortion!

Christians are easy targets, and I trust other faith groups get a wee touch from you too Barry?

If anyone speaks against catholics on here you are rapid in defence of this faith group, but quick to slate other Christian groups....why so?

Civil partnership HAS been here for a while and abortion is not a stick you can beat the DUP with, as pro- life is strong in Irish catholic nationalist and republican circles.

Personally, after nine million babies were terminated in the UK since 1967, a little rethink is needed.
When is it OK to kill a healthy baby that could survive if premature, because another human has a change of mind.....Or, do the unborn deserve no voice or rights in our progressive new world, where only one narrative on morality is allowed?
The narrowminded church power has been replaced by often narrowminded lgbt and abortion activists, who really do No Platform pro life and christian opinion at uni, for example!

Tgbas

The NI border is not an easy fix, as keeping SF, EU, brexit voters, remain voters and the DUP happy is miracle land, requiring Tony Blair type double speak that keep pira and the uvf happy and on board, all at once.

Yesterday opened a Pandoras box for Scots, Welsh and Londoners to demand similar NI special status....could be a positive if you want soft brexit too?

And I ask again, if NI stayed in the Eu customs union and Single market, where do goods coming to Belfast from Scotland to here get customs checked.....we are being pushed into an all Ireland economy by such an approach, and the hard border moves from NI / Eire, to NI / GB.....and we are All opposed to hard borders, right?

It is solo messy.

Vote again, Noo👍

To elaborate, I am a wee political Beastie and have been since 79.
I eat, drink and sleep/ lie awake thinking about politics😳

You thought I was angry the other day when posting with Barry, but it was frustration.I had said I was not into border battles, organised faith and politicians putting labels on kids, and sighted Catalonia, NI etc.
Then, Barry has a go implying I am some bigot brexit Brit, accusing Only loyalists of racism, and hating on all things unionist.

Now, I have moved on and am at peace with myself, and the world, and in this weird state, I still see wrongs in myself and others.

Barry is entitled to his views, and I can comment on his comments, without swimming in bigotry or backsliding into hate.

If I think Barry is putting words in my mouth, or Only picking faults on one side, it would be cowardly and stupid for me to be quiet.

Barry and others vented their sleek against the DUP and loyalists yesterday over the EU talks, and I responded.....turns out,,the Eu and Dublin sides could have been the BAD guys this time.

Plenty of times Arlene and the DUP were bad guys, and I slammed them on RHI schemes,, their Irish language funding withdrawal from schools, and their more fundamentalist members.

I am no angel, tgbas, but I try to be fair and balanced,,so I am not reverting back👍

Quite the reverse😁
