Loved the scene where Snoke belittles Kylo for being a poor man's Darth Vader. It's pretty much what everyone thinks and it was refreshing to have Snoke defame him like that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I loved Snoke in this film. Ive always been a fan of mysterious characters anyway especially in star wars, but his scenes in TLJ were all really good i thought. Was gutted with his death first time round
I think we will get a Snoke anthology later down the line. Snoke's backstory, more footage of the jedi academy and how snoke turned Ben, the building of the force order from the ashes of the empire. Would be much better than an obi wan film for me
My thoughts; watched it last night and I’m very disappointed.
The film wasn’t without merit, the development of Kylo as the evil in the film was really good but there was just so much wasted time and opportunity.
Snoke - the film began with him really sizzling imo. The rebuke of Kylo and show of strength, loved it. And then he was killed before he really got going. No idea who he was, where he came from, any motivations whatsoever. Just there, powerful and the gone. Such a waste.
Plasma - genuine question, what was the point? As a character she was a total waste of time.
DJ and the whole casino scene - struggling to see the value in it. Other than a bit of backstory for Rose and the visuals (which were very impressive). Likewise DJ. Presumably he was there for the double cross but it was a hell of a set up for that.
Leia - can fly through outer space now apparently. Utterly ridiculous and led to pockets of laughter in the showing I was at.
Finn - despite being in the film a fair amount, I’m not sure what he added. He just didn’t really do much. They still seem to be running the ‘coward who will only fight to save Rey’ thing that was in TFA. Up until the point he seemed prepared to commit suicide at the end. I liked his character in TFA, I’m just not sure it went anywhere in this film.
BB8 - can act as a massive fuse and also steal/drive a walker. Apparently.
We’re now 2 films in and Rey has still received no more than 20 mins training. I liked the flawed hero angle with Luke and redemption at the end but the death seemed a bit weak to me. Just popped off.
The biggest issue for me though was just the lack of chemistry between the characters. That is why I enjoyed TFA (despite limitations as a film) but it just wasn’t there this time imo.
It just felt like they looked at what is popular and thought, let’s just do that. The mind link worked in Harry Potter, let’s just do that with Rey and Kylo. Everyone loves game of thrones so let’s just kill off as many characters as possible. Works for them.
Ultimately what I feel I was left with was a bunch of set piece scenes with little purpose or chemistry, with some characters underdeveloped and some utterly wasted.
It is disappointing the first time round when the film doesn't meet your expectations.
Second time round when you accept the film for what it is is a good watch. The characters also seemed to have more chemistry to me second time round I don't know why

I hear you Obers but I’m not going again. Unless leia dies in space the second time rather than flying? Or they do something useful with Finn so that he isn’t saved by an enormous snooker ball stealing a walker?
I just don’t see myself being that turned around on it. I’ll probably watch it again when it comes out on dvd.

I still think there is so much wasted potential in the film, and some things that happen are just so unnecessary and cringey. But when you accept it for what it is second time it's a better watch
Leia didn’t fly. She pulled herself back to the ship. Think of it more like a grappling gun.
Also for people wondering why Luke would leave a map to him with r2d2 if he didn’t want to be found, which is something I’ve seen numerous people bring up online, he didn’t. R2 had a map to the first Jedi temple from when Luke was lookin for it, not a map to Luke.
Also i really don’t think snoke is gone. I think that’s a massive red herring myself.
I’d be absolutely fine with Kylo being the main antagonist in 9 though, but i believe snoke will be back.

1. Using the force DOES drain your energy and if you're aware of the Star Wars lore, you would know this. Why don't you think jedi and sith are able to move star destroyers or even planets? The force is not an unlimited power.
———
Yoda “No! No different. Only in your mind”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think that can be taken literally.
If this was the case, why do Jedi and sith not use their force powers to take out large armies or star destroyers. Why did yoda struggle to stop the ceiling falling in on Obi Wan and Anakin against Dooku, surely that would have been an easy feat? Why did Sideous just not disable the shield on Endor himself from the death star? Why did Obi Wan struggle against Jango fett?
The force has limits.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wrong. It doesn’t. You don’t understand it if that’s what you believe. No offence but the force is one big web of energy.
Why do you think we had the scene in ESB with the rocks vs the X-wing?
The force doesn’t have limits it’s the force user that does.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was being slightly facetious when I said she was flying. I know and understand the premise of the scene, I just think it’s ludicrous.
Knocked out of a moving ship by a blast into a vacuum with no ability to breath, she regain consciousness and uses the force between her and the ship to save herself. And this with a character that, though tragic circumstance, they had to write out of the script.
I understand this is all sci-fi and none of it actually makes sense but even in that context the scene was dreadful. I can’t believe they tested it with audiences and it came out ok!

I think this is absolutely one of the scenes that they really missed the boat on.
Kylo still tormented between light and dark, realises it leia, can't bring himself to shoot, other pilots blow her out into space, she's dead, its done. Kylo takes one step closer to losing all light within him and we have good closure on Leia. It also could have given Luke more of a reason to get involved.
Could've been a good scene.

That’s defintel what i would have done with hindsight after Carrie Fischer’s tragic passing, however the film had finished shooting by that stage so they didn’t have time to reshoot and get it out for Xmas.
Personally i would have pushed the release to feb or even March and done the necessary reshoots, but i still liked the overall film they put out, although i understand why some didn’t.
