Not with that effort of a manager.

Any team, be it SAFs great sides or the great Chelsea and Arsenal sides would also be out of a title challenge by this stage against a side who’ve won every single week bar one

Rather than look inward and hate oneself you just gotta give props to City

As for the top 4 challenge, the reality of the situation is there are 5 very good sides looking for 3 places. Finishing in the top 4 these days is somewhat of a success relatively speaking.

As long as that isn’t our ambition every season (to make top 4) I can’t see much wrong with it. Times have changed. Can’t remember when 6 teams have all been so good

Give the Portuguese eye gouger another season and you'll have an exciting battle to avoid bottom 3 - like where he took Chelsea. The little fecker is useless.

____________
So after all that investment we are just part of a chasing pack that have given up the chase

2 games ago the term "comfortably second" was used on this forum to describe our league position.
4 points thrown away in those 2 games and a top 4 finish is now "somewhat of a success"

I never said ‘comfortably second’ just for the record.

And for the record I still think we’ll finish second. In any other season our points total would have us putting in a challenge for the title.

But with City likely to probably win as many as 33/34 games this season, what can ya do?

Keep in mind that Chelsea outspent us this summer and already had a better side so by being above them we’re overachieving.

Here’s how I’d see a far reaction to where we could finish this season

1st - massively overachieving
2nd - overachieving
3rd - par
4th - underachieving
5th - poor
6th - very poor

What you don't do is drop 3 pts away to huddersfield and throw away 4 pts the way we did in our last 2 games

That's 7 pts there that would have kept some semblance of a title challenge going into the new year but would also have given us breathing room in the league with the tough games against our top 4 rivals to come, not to mention the cl.

What you’re asking is silly though. You’re looking for perfection which bar City this season isn’t something you can ask of many teams at all.

Shock results happen. They happened under SAF at his height. They will eventually happen to City. You can’t use dropping some points against smaller sides as a stick to beat someone with especially as we are still second.

It seems everyone remembers our dropping points to lower sides but forgets the other sides (bar City) have dropped loads of points too. It happens.

Yep

And that's 3 in row now for us

And yep we are in 2nd with but with our rivals now breathing down our neck.

I don't like Mourinho. I never have.

That said, let's look at things more rationally here.

Whilst it looks like City will win the Title, there are still 57 points up for grabs so there is a long way to go yet.

A lot of people seem to be putting negative focus on Mourinho but let's have it right.

In any other season, 43 points after 20 games would be a pretty good return and see a team right in the mix.

At this stage last season, City had 42 points and were sitting in 3rd.

This season, City are already 16 points better off after an unprecedented 18 game winning streak.

There is no way Mourinho, or any other manager, can legislate for that.

United have improved based on their final placing last season. It's just that City have improved even more.

The story of this season should be how Guardiola has been able to rely on the backing of the Board to get the right players in and drastically improve the players he already had. Impressive stuff really.

All for nought though if he doesn't bring home the bacon.

Sometimes 3 shock results in a row happen. It’s called not being in great form. Eventually we’ll get back in form. Not really worried.

As for the sides below us breathing down our neck - indeed they are. They are good sides who have all had bad spells and will all have more bad spells.

You seem to be looking for drama where there is none. Below City there are 5 sides who are all pretty equal. Perhaps us and Chelsea should be seen as the rightful 2nd and 3rd best sides down to our spending and IMO that’s how the league table will finish.

The way you’re sounding on here is that we’ve had a bit of a bad spell and you’re panicking.

It happened to City last season. 3 consecutive home draws to Everton, Southampton and Middlesbrough after a defeat at WHL.

Granted there was a win at WBA in the middle of all this but sometimes you don't get the result you think you should.
