Whoever has made the better use of the drugs will win it.

So Venus will win the men's.

Love to see the Federer express back on track.

It's just amazing that he could soon be back to number one in the world again.

Venus relies on intelligent shot-making and timing whereas Serena uses power, strength and fast serves to win matches but she is not playing.I would love to see Nadal or Zverev win in men or Stephens or Sharapova to win in women.Sadly,it will be won by Federer and Venus Williams.

Everyone thought Federer or Nadal would win the ATP Finals but Dmitrov won it and Goffin beat both Nadal and Fed.

If the courts are playing fast like last year, then Fed has a good chance, but I hope this is another Slam dominated by Fed or Nadal (even though I love watching Fed in full flow), it's getting really boring now.

I meant

*NOT another Slam dominated by Fed or Nadal

Just True I want to see Nadal win Australian Open again. If not Nadal, then hopefully a young player winning it would be nice.

Kerber or Sharapova have also got a chance of winning Australian Open in my opinion.

Nobody wants to discuss tennis on ja606.I wonder why that is the case.

It should not be physically possible for a 36 year old to dominate tennis and his nearest rival being Nadal. Very poor era in tennis and some suspicious doping.

Too many inconsistent players allow for very dodgy draws which tend to favour the top players.

If the best 8 players were ranked 1-8 and there was not this silly rule change which meant 32 players (instead of 16) are ranked (which happens in no other sport I assume), I think we wouldn't have tournaments dominated by the same people again and again and again.

Also, there's the other problem that there has been 1 if not 2 very poor generation of players both mentally and physically.

Just True, young generation is mentally weak unlike Federer,Nadal,Djokovic,Murray and Wawrinka in my view.

It's a shame that we've lost the likes of Thiem and Zverev before the QFs however there is some new blood in Chung and Edmund reaching this stage along with that lad called Tennys. What a name. Sandgren or Chung will reach the semis too along with most likely Federer, Nadal and Dimitrov.

I can't see Berdych troubling Federer, he's lost the last 8 and hasn't beaten him since 2013. I was amazed to see Cilic and Nadal have only faced off 6 times and Nadal has won the last 5 with Cilic's only win coming in 2009! Edmund vs Dimitrov will be a good game but a step too far for Edmund at this stage in his career.

Federer should progress pretty smoothly but Nadal vs Dimitrov should they both get there could be a cracking match.

Candlestick Zverev and Thiem are quality players but they generally are below par and play tennis well below their real ability and go on to choke in Grand Slams.I like both players.

True. It's a shame really as last year with Murray and Djokovic struggling with injuries, Federer and Nadal seeming past it, the young guns should have come through and won slams last year. Now Federer and Nadal look like the men to beat again and you'd back Djokovic and Murray to get back into the latter stages of slams when fully fit.

I'm delighted for Edmund that he got through but I was sort of hoping to see Dimitrov break the chain. Perhaps he's the epitome of the younger players not quite having the mental strength of that fab 5 of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka?

Anyway, Edmund has been fantastic and grown in confidence as the tournament has gone on. Hopefully he can play at his best against Nadal to give us an indicator of what level he's at.

The striking thing about the 3 lower ranked players who have made it this far is the self belief and mature play. Chung has looked a little nervy at times, but they have all prevailed against more experienced opponents.

We have to remember that Fed and Nadal are greats of the game, exceptions to the rules, so it's unfair to say this is a weak era, its hard for others to win when you have tennis genii around.

WRT the ladies, with only one major winner left in the draw it's exciting times and I would love Halep or Wozniacki to win it and erase doubts about their credentials as world number ones.

If you look at top ten of ladies tennis its amazing to see how many former number ones and players at career highs are up there, will be an exciting year in WTA this year.

Cilic is playing some great tennis yet finds himself 2-1 down in sets. Up a break in the 4th though and now Nadal is getting some treatment. It'll be a shame if he can't continue close to 100%.

I want Angelique Kerber to win Australian Open 2018.In men if Nadal doesn't win I want Edmund or Cilic to win Australian Open 2018.

posted on 23/1/18

Cilic breaks again and takes the 4th set so he gets to serve first in the final set. Cilic will want to ride this momentum and get an early break.

All injuries to Nadal mostly occur in Australian Open.

Shame really as it was a really good game up until that point. Can Berdych keep the upsets going?

posted on 23/1/18

Didn’t expect that at all

Edmund and Cilic through

Very possible that Berdych can cause another upset, he has beaten Fed in slams before.

Very possible?

Their head to head in majors is 6-2 in favour of fed, last time berdych beat fed in a major was 6 years ago when Berdych played lights out tennis.

Possible, of course.

Very possible, no.

posted on 23/1/18

Yes, Fed has had the better of Berdych especially in recent times, but I feel out of all the players left in the tournament, he is best equipped to beat Fed.

Also the fact that Dmitrov and Nadal have gone out have added a little extra pressure on this match as Fed may get ahead of himself.

Yes of course Fed is the favourite, but I feel he will need to be at his absolute best.

So Berdych is better equipped than Cilic who beat Fed more recently at US Open then gave him all sorts of problems at Wimby?
