I've read a few books by Robert J Sawyer (FlashForward fame) recently and they were pretty good, easy sci-fi reading.

Since I've moved closer to work though don't read as much as I had around 10 hours travelling time per week to fill before. Most of my reading is now JA606 which is where I get my world view.

Ah sorry, Metro, I hadn't realised you'd done one! I reckon we could do with a refresh after a good 5 1/2 years though!

Currently moved onto 'The Last Kingdom', the first in 'The Saxon Stories' series by Bernard Cornwell.

Supposedly like GoT (the three books of which I adored) except based on historically accurate information and characters (albeit a lot has been added to it to take it from the non-fictional chronicle to the novel section).

Not too far into yet, but seems pretty interesting if you're into that sort of thing. Heard there's a series too - anyone know if it's any good?

Comrade Fox by Stewart Hennesey. It's a novel based on the Russian revolution. Entertaining, very, and educational as its details are factual.
I also like nearly all Bernard Cornwell books.

Last Kingdom are great,

If you like historical fiction then I would recommend all the series done by Conn Iggulden - There is a series on Rome but I would only read upto Book 4. The series on Ghengis Khan is probably the best but I also really enjoyed his series on the War of the Roses and if you aren't too familiar with the history bits he lets on what has been changed and what actually happened at the back.

Child of Vengeance by David Kirk is great and based on Samurai culture in japan in the 1500s - just waiting for the third book

The Ill Made Knight series is also brilliant by Christian Cameron

The way I tend to buy books is basically follow on from some of the Amazon recommends items for my kindle but it does really depend on what you like to read. I have a pretty diverse taste but generally read fantasy fiction or Historical fiction.

Currently reading Mindhunter because I really liked the Netflix show.

If you want a long read then the Dresden Files are pretty awesome and there are about 15 of them - kind of magic but in a modern Chicago setting.

Basically I read books for at least an hour to 2 hours almost daily and have done since being a child, dunno why just always loved it.

Finally got round to reading 1984, scarily close to where we are headed. Fantastic book when you take into account when it was written.

I enjoy the David Baldacci books and some of the earlier Dan Brown books, you know, easy to read page turned that keep you on your toes.

Homo dues was good, I preferred Sapiens myself. Explains a lot about human society and how it was shaped. Makes you realise how seriously we take life at times too.

Also if you like the Secret Service type books, Robert Ludlem type stuff then check out The Company by Robert Littell - its kinda the start of the CIA coming out of the war and weaves fiction into historical events and characters - great book though even if its a lengthy read.

As are all of Kings books. I read the stand last year, the unabridged version. Brilliant book and fantastic plot, shame he goes into so much detail about every little thing though.

Hate his endings though, always feel disappointed. I'm going to restart the Dark Tower series soon though so that might change my opinion.

If it's anything like the film I wouldn't bother

I've read 4 King books and I'd say the stand is far and away the best. Read up on it before committing to that series
