Good article, I like your Accounting references. You happen to be a fellow Ja606 Accountant?

In answer to your article, to put it simply, is that the media, opposition fans, love to talk about United. Good, bad or the ugly, United will sell papers and will get people talking.

Unfortunately so, TopLad!

Work in one of the Big Four firms, yourself?

I've probably overdone it on the technicalities, but it was to demonstrate just how far they've taken it in their bitterness!

I aspire to be in your position one day. Just in the process of doing my ACCA exams. Got about 4 left!

What's your job title?

Haha unfortunately not many will understand this article for it's true worth.

Only slightly ahead of you - recently finished my exams so now an L2.

Currently in tax although I'm not opposed to a move into corporate finance or advisory.

Its mainly for the benefit of Conte'nt who, despite all other efforts, is the only poster on JA that I find annoying!

And best of luck in your exams! I'm sure you'll smash them!

Very nice, I was looking to go into Tax after. Just assessing my options. But really enjoy Tax.

How is it working in one of the Big 4 firms? As demanding as people say?

He's a well known wum, he purposely seeks to annoy people. I'm sure he will be glad to know it's working

How much are you being charged out at, by your company, to sit at your desk replying to some wind-ups by writing an essay about amortisation?
And which mug of a client is paying for it?

The Big 4 are like the Magnificent 7.

There is such thing as getting most your work done before the deadline and then using up some of the other time

TopLad

You get told by other people how lucky you are, a lot!

I quite enjoy it, but I'm fortunate to have a good team who treat the juniors with a lot of respect and is small enough that you know everyone quite well.

I've heard some of my friends (mainly in assurance/audit) around the big four tell some horror stories about Senior Managers/Partners that refuse to speak to them directly because of the gap in their respective levels!

I can tell you that the hours are long, but you get great exposure to big clients and can be a fair bit of travelling to nice places/decent hotels, if you so choose (you can also choose to stay very much at home!).

@WessieRoad,

I am on my lunch (which yes, sadly, I'm eating at my desk) and have worked 45 hours already this week, or is it too much to ask to indulge in a hobby, lest my mental health further deteriorate?

Always take time for yourself mate, even if its for 10 minutes - just don't charge it to a client on your timesheet!

Why the hate for the big four? Did you have dealings with Anderson before the Enron scandal?

@rooney_hernandez

As long as you're enjoying it and not hating your job, I guess that's the main thing. Have a friend who works at Goldman Sachs. Absolutely hates it, but the money is too good. He says he will leave soon, though.

I look forward to it. Hopefully get to your stage one day

To be a knowledgeable/respected United fan, you have to have either a degree in marketing, advertising, economics or accountancy. Do not talk to me about football if you do not have one of those degrees. Do you even know what market elasticity is?! Call yourself a football fan?

A lot of people leave and move around the other accountancy firms, then move back, then to the client etc.

It's quite rare these days to get a partner that's progressed from L1 all the way through in the same firm!

I had (probably still do have) an interest in investment banking, but I think that's when the profession goes too far. Very short life in IB and you have to ask "at what price?"

If you find somewhere in which your passionate about your role; you have time for your family; you have time to get out into the countryside with your dog - don't let go! People are fickle, though. I'll have a different philosophy on life next year, probably

Is it when the market gets stretched?

I recommend Toplad for Ed’s job, he’d do a better job getting good deals.

Elasticity is to do with demand and supply in the market dependant on prince changes

I'd love to have Ed's job.
