He has three of the four most expensive defenders in the world (pending Laporte's arrival), the most expensive keeper in the world and the most expensive squad in the world by a long way. He's operating under huge constraints. I

'm still confused as to why an absolute genius needs to always operate with such huge advantages

Because when he took over the treble winning European champions he failed 3 years running to make the final, think its 6 in total now and is desperate not to continue that run.

And people think he isn't a chequebook manager.

He's a genius. You wouldn't understand

you guys are so unkind

You have to feel sorry for them, poor souls

Put him in charge at Arsenal or Spurs and he wins nothing. He's a fantastic manager but his style only works when he has the best players.

I can't see that he'd ever win the CL with unfancied teams like Jose did because the football he likes to play doesn't allow for it unless he has the best players.

this

that style of ultra technical possession football is only effective at the top level if you have players (all of them including the keeper) who are top draw footballers

add in to that he's a lying separatist who should be locked up

"There are salaries we cannot pay. There are parts of the transfer we cannot pay," said Guardiola.

"Maybe in the future it is going to happen, but we have not paid more than £100m for a player, or £90 or £80m. We cannot pay that right now. They told me. And the salaries and some things. We cannot pay. That is the truth."

Can't see your problem tbh.

He is a chequebook manager. Difference is, he doesn't serve up shıt on a stick football when he uses his chequebook.

Boris
It is possible. What he's basically saying is that he has to have a squad of 22 bought players, and in doing so, it limits the fees he could pay. Maybe give the EDS (horrible abbreviation), some minutes, nurture them, and you can afford to pay bigger fees.

What ever way he paints it, he does have the most expensive squad in the world. So the fees he says are beyond him, clearly are not. As clubs with smaller squad value have spent more on individual players. The blindness to giving youth a chance is Pep's problem here.

If they're good enough, they'll play.

Foden and Diaz are/were getting starting to get game time and Zenchenko has become a first team regular.

Always worth having a look at the players who have actually played for City this season before spouting off.

Several of the youngsters have had significant game time in meaningful games. Some of the previous managers would have submitted to torture before picking youngsters but Pep has mixed a few in. Interesting that the fees paid by City are way below those of others yet they dominate English football. Pep wants the best in order to play the best football, but the club paying ridiculous agents fees isn't something they will do.

Yet the money Pep has spent is more than that of anyone. And the squad is significantly more expensive than any other (even before he spends another 57 million in the next couple of days).

Soooooo his argument that he can't spend large fees is nonsense, it's just that he wants to have an entirely bought squad. Which is exactly what he has, incidentally. Look at the 24 man squad submitted

I suppose if I watched the pub standard dross that is Scottish football I'd be jealous too. With a few bitter rags weighing in as well. Yawn.

Pep is building a defence that should be good for the next 6/7 years.

No one will be talking about the cost in 3 years time.

Walker is considered to be the best RB in the PL and in the top 5 in Europe.

It was doubtful we'd get him on a free transfer.

What’s your relevance here?

I think most clubs fans are pointing the obvious out.

You’re not trying to get some internet fwiends are you? 😂

I never said you would. I said that whilst he's spent more than anyone (he has) and has the most expensive squad in the world (he does) and outspent Jose massively since he's been here (he has), it's a bit silly to say he can't spend massive fees. He clearly can, but has decided to throw the money out on more players.

I'm pretty sure PSG's squad cost more than ours.

posted on 28/1/18

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Bear in mind that MBappe is currently on loan and they won't be able to buy him without selling

posted on 28/1/18

And Zenchenko is not a youth team player. You signed him when he was older than Rooney and Ronaldo were when they signed for United

I've just read the article and I have to admit I'm a wee bit puzzled by it

How is it like superman spilling ketchup on his suit?

Pep inherited Hart, Clichy, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Sagna and Kompany who cost less than £40m in total.

He was never going to buy suitable replacements for the same price.
