Exactly, it doesn't normally show the signs until it is well advanced and by then its normally too late. Very underfunded variant of cancer.

Just saw, I remember him around 2004 for a brief period. Sad loss and on my birthday.

He came on as a sub that game, the magical Rooney CL and Man Utd debut.

I knew his name since I've followed United since I was little but also got to see him up close in the A-League when he was here.

Most of the articles will mention he joined Perth Glory in 2011 - I was at the grand final they played against Brisbane Roar (the team I support) who were right in the middle of a real dominant patch. Perth got ahead by 1 having forced an own goal in front of the Den but conceded an equaliser late on. Miller was the player to give away the penalty that won Brisbane the game. Was a hugely controversial decision, but was clear that Miller just tapped Berisha's ankle as he was winding up causing him to knock the ball out of the path of his shooting foot. When he missed completely he hammed it up which the Perth fans would have hated but it was still a good call.

The next season he actually signed for Brisbane on a free transer. That season was probably the best they played through all the good times. Brisbane already had a good midfield and when he was there it got even better. Very good at holding possession - we'd refer to the team as the Roarcelona - and it kinda was like watching Barcelona play (if they had about 10% of their abiliity and you squinted). Brisbane won that A-League season pretty easily and the grand final too.

Next season unfortunately, the coach had a Mourinho-esque meltdown not far in and the whole team disintegrated. I think Miller cancelled his contract after being benched twice so there was probably something behind the scenes. The coach got sacked soon after anyway and there was other senior players that left too.

Anyway, fond memories of Liam Miller. Very sad news.
