People moan about Pogba being forced into a 2 man midfield... but the same goes for Matic too, he has played in a 3 most of his career.

No he hasn’t.

Matic made a superb start to his Utd career but his form has dipped. He looks pretty ordinary of late. The lack of options means he's first choice.

To be fair, I did spell exactly wrong

One thing we always got from Carrick was his ability to cover a lot of ground.

Matic doesn't have this. He is very similar to Groot in that he ambles along instead of runs.

I’d say so

We didn’t look too bad with a midfield 2 at the beginning of the season.

Only difference now it seems is Bailly missing.

Maybe his composure on the ball and all action defending gave the team a different dynamic.
Maybe he and Matic work well together. Or players make runs knowing there’s a chance Bailly finds them (as opposed to with Smalling)

Fck knows. But we’re starting to get boring to watch again. Whereas start of season I was enjoying the matches, regardless of results.

Since that Liverpool game our excitability average has plummeted to James Milner levels.

Nowhere near the Moyes and vG times, but it’s not very exciting.

Carrick was told to stay behind the halfway line under Fergie during his best time for us.

It was due to that, people formed a nasty habit of thinking he didn’t do enough. Even though he was performing admirably.

It was likened, by the wiser members of the spectating masses, to accusing a CB of “not contributing”.

I can see the same happening with Matic

Matic was superb for his first 10-12 games, he's went off the boil a wee bit but to be fair so have others.

I think he's been an excellent buy

it did annoy me how much time he seemed to want on the ball yesterday, and how many times he lost it as a consequence. Worrying how good Newcastle's midfield were made to look against our midfield yesterday
