Just watched, Ngannu did himself proud.

Having just watched it back, I'd like to commend Francis for his performance and admonish myself for doubting his abilities.

The fight itself was painful to watch. It was a low activity fight with Fury missing a lot of shots and Francis patiently trying to land a few. I had the fight for Francis but I could see a Fury win, as some of the rounds were difficult to judge, due to the inactivity of both guys. Candidly, I don't think Fury trained for this fight and he looked like he done little to no sparring either. His timing was completely off but credit to Francis, as he landed some good shots and took some clean right hands and kept on coming. He might have lost the decision but his stock rose and he was the real winner on the night.

As for Fury, he didn't look too enthusiastic about fighting Usyk and it does beg the question, could he be slipping and was that why he never fought Usyk earlier?

It’s impossible to know with Fury. He’s one big propaganda machine and everything he says can be in several different ways. How many times has he retired?

I think Fury looks done with boxing.

Money and criticism might force him to fight vs Usyk but I think that's really it now.

Shame we never got to see Fury-Joshua, probably too late now Fury is spent and AJ has become gun shy.

I've just seen the compubox stats and neither man landed more than single digits in any round. When a fight is low volume in that way,the scoring gets tighter.

Also, Francis must have Wilder level power because he clipped Fury with a 70% punch and knocked him down.

He has 2 fights left in my opinion. Usyk twice and then retirement.

Fury appears desperate to duck Usyk - I can see why.

Usyk would win every round.

John Fury suddenly not as talkative:

Also how overrated does it make Wilder look? Ngannou made it closer in 1 fight between him and Tyson than both Wilder and Chisora did in 3.

Tyson prepared properly for those though. Last night was just an exhibition that he clearly didn't take seriously. Trying to judge previous fights in hindsight of last night would be like judging the likes of Foreman and Frazier on Ali's defeats at the end of his career.

Maybe but I think there was something a bit extra to Ngannou though. For one thing he wasn't really gassing out the way people thought he would and wasn't getting quite as bullied as Wilder had been against Fury.

Wilder gets overrated already in my view. I hear too often how he smashes Joshua easily when Joshua could quite easily wipe him out himself.

Agreed.

Boxing math rarely works as there are other factors at play.

Wilder isn't rated that highly as a boxer, it's more so his power that people rate.

Funniest thing on this thread was someone stating that Fury is one of the most overrated fighters ever based on last night

He is.

Beat Wilder twice and Klitschko - that's about it - and some people put him in same category as Lennox, Holyfield, Frazer, Louis, Ali etc and he is so far off that it is laughable.

If I was in Ngannou's team, I would be urging him to not to return to MMA. A few more big boxing fights and he can retire.

Honestly, this is a very weak heavyweight era tbh.

I wouldn't go as far to say most overrated but he's taken advantage of the worst era of heavyweight boxing it can't be denied.

He'd have been embarrassed had he been around in the Lennox, Tyson, Holyfield era.

Well, I didn’t watch it. I thought it’d be a farce. But fair play, sounds by all accounts, it was a legit contest.

But I’m just thinking that Fury saw this as a warm-up, and really didn’t respect his challenger.
It’s not so surprising Fury didn’t perform, having been out for so long. And 35 now.

But cobwebs are off, and expect him to perform a lot better in his next fight. Some are saying it was close, and just got away with it. But I’ll give Fury benefit of the doubt.
Fair play to Francis, sounds like he held his own, and even dropped Fury.
Furys Rep will take a hit, and I reckon he’ll come back and be a lot better. Whether he’ll win or not is another question.

Fury looks like he has checked out - I hope he dedicates himself to one big performance vs Usyk before he goes into exhibitions against YouTubers and easy money.

Both Fury and Wilder are overrated. The only one who is rated highly in this era and who lives up to it is Usyk, given what he's done in the sport of boxing up until now.

I think those that are saying Tyson didn't train for this fight are just plucking that idea out of thin air. The evidence points to Tyson training as hard for this as any other fight. I've seen nothing to suggest from any of the Tyson camp that he didn't train properly, they're all saying he trained well.

Fact is he just came up against something he wasn't expecting, ie a fighter that wasn't remotely intimidated by him, who held his ground and didn't back off and who was clearly much stronger physically than Tyson. Meaning that Fury couldn't bully him in the clinch. Also someone who hits very hard as you could see in the latter rounds Fury was getting more and more reluctant to engage for fear of being hit and potentially floored for a second time.

It was an embarrassing display by Fury and even more embarrassing that he got the decision.

It was a far from embarrassing decision - it is a very, very easy to justify decision. I guess from your comments about it being the biggest robbery in boxing history that your introduction to boxing was KSI and Logan Paul and you only recognise big hits rather than actual boxing.
