Poch on cups

Sort of get what he says but - WE NEED TO WIN SOMETHING FOR THE SAKE OF THE CLUB, PLAYERS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, US THE FANS!!!!!!!!!!!

All out for the FA Cup!!!!!!

This is silly and naive from poch. Look at the biggest managers in the game, they make a huge deal out of winning any trophy because they want to use it to build the players up in terms of mentality and confidence

Poch is so busy focussing on the CL and PL, which he has no hope of winning any time soon, that he’s effectively teaching his players to disregard the important stepping stones other managers would use in this pursuit

The FA cup may not be the trophy it once was but it’s silverware. And Tottenham have one minor trophy in 25 years or so. He would be better targeting cup competitions to build that winning mentality than to prioritise competitions he has no chance of winning

Working on the assumption that anticipation is better than realisation,he as a manager has never won anything so why spoil it.

Meh, we all know this already it’s nothing new.

Tbf he’s right that winning a domestic cup won’t change the club in to a winner like winning the league or CL that takes 10 months playing against top teams.

For instance this year in Fa Cup we’ve played 3 lower league teams and now Swansea and if we win in the semi final. It’s more luck of the draw.

It’s a nice trophy to win and definitely on my list because I’m a fan and want to winning everything.

Probably as usual all being taken out of context by the Media. I get where Poch is coming from and being the most consistent side of all in the Prem last three seasons is something to thank him for. Poch is building for a serious title challenge, and no reason to think next season should not really go for it. I doubt Man City will have a year like this. And it will be a lot closer next season.

The FA Cup would be very welcome, but in the long run, it don`t mean a lot. Look at how bad Arsenal have become yet they have won three of the last four FA Cups. Problem being the FA Cup is more a less reserve team competition up until QF or Semis.

“Leicester winning the league was a fantastic story but the moment you lift the trophy and then put it down, that disappears,”

He was right about that though
What happened to those guys ?

Leicester and Spurs are not really comparable though. For us it was a once in a lifetime chance to win a major piece of silverware that we should have done in the last 50 years or so. For a small club that aims to be established in the PL that’s all most fans would ever want

Spurs are in a very different position. Poch is trying to transform them into a side that competes with the European elite - winning the PL or the CL as part of a transition to an elite club.

That can’t happen overnight and questions are being raised over spurs mentality because they have thrown away several good chances to win silverware of any kind. The last thing poch needs to do is to downgrade the FA cup - it’s vital this group wins something to progress

I'm sorry but we need to be winning trophies more regularly than we do. We have done fantastic players who need to experience winning a trophy. I would suggest that whilst I love Poch, if he fails to win a trophy in the next few seasons then he will not have proven himself fully.

I agree with Poch. FA Cups and League Cups are nice to win for the fans, but they don't mean anything for the overall health of a football club.

He's not saying he doesn't care about them, and he's not saying he won't try and win the cup. He's just pointing out that bad teams can get lucky (e.g. Swansea league cup, Wigan FA Cup), and that domestic cups don't reflect how strong a team is. That's fair.

Arsenal have won 3 cups in 4 years, and they are a shrivelling, decaying corpse of a football club. I for one am glad that Poch has such high ambitions in trying to transform the club into a heavyweight regularly competing for the title.

Bollox. If it wasn't for our historical FA Cup successes we wouldn't be the club we are today.

There’s this level of expectancy given we’ve won nothing

We’re not winning the league anytime soon, neither the Champions League

Cups are our level at the moment

What annoys me more is that this must filter down to the players. How are they going to feel walking into the pitch today.

On a side note, Man City celebrated their league cup win like it was a proper trophy. They have aspirations higher than that but didn't look down on it.
