Experience counts for a lot in this game and if we don’t go up I think it will bode well for next season.

I am feeling a sense of Deja vu, we have been here before, one game to play, needing a win against an opponent we should beat...... That Reading game still haunts me now.
And the home leg against Hull and the QPR final and several games this season i'd say tommo.
That's the spirit lads.

Vidal - its all in the mind isn't it!
Difference is Barnsley need a result, Reading didn't and could play with a freedom plus they are also a bogey team.
This day week we'll be discussing our semi final opponent's
Not impossible for us to finish fifth. Boro may leave a few out of their team to play at Ipswich so if they lose and we win we could finish in front of them. Villa will definitely finish fourth. I know Fulham are better than Villa but I would still prefer that we play them. I just think the pressure might get to them slightly more than to Villa and even if we lose to Fulham then fair dos, they deserve it. I would still rather play Cardiff than either though.
Could still plummet to eighth though, as some will be quick to point out.
This article isn’t about positive thinking and the moan in about disastrous results was on the match thread.
If if you have no comment on the premise of the article 1 star it, fook off onto the match thread and stop wasting my time.

Interesting article here, might explain a bit about what happened to the club after Wembley.

First of all then, it's "led" not "lead". As in Zeppelin rather than pencil.
I would dispute your premise that it is inevitable that a slump will recur and therefore that it will be necessary to handle it at all. You are in danger of proceeding from a false assumption. If these are 1. your major premise 2. your minor premise and 3. your conclusion:
1. We have had slumps previously
2. Our current manager has LED us through a slump
3. It is inevitable that the same manager will lead us into another slump.
then I would say you are making a syllogistic fallacy of the whole thing. Here is another example:
An old cowboy (let's call him Rameses) goes into a bar and orders a drink. As he sits there sipping his whisky, a young lady sits down next to him. ... She says, 'I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. ...' A little while later, a couple sits down next to Rameses and asks him, 'Are you a real cowboy?' He replies, 'I always thought I was, but I just found out I'm a lesbian'.
Maybe positive thinking might avoid the whole slump thing in the first place. If we had fewer "fans" like yourself, pouting away and refusing to get behind the lads until they are five-nil up and playing like Brazil circa 1970, perhaps we wouldn't get into these situations.
I did compose a response to this article yesterday but decided the whole thing was so tedious I simply couldn't bother. It was a basically a yes to the question posed though, if that helps at all.
Vidal's syllogism
1. We have had slumps previously
2. Our current manager has LED us through a slump
3. It is inevitable that the same manager will lead us into another slump.
Well it was true for Steve McClaren.
I would say the chances of us losing a game next February, if we are still in the championship are fairly high.
At that point the idea of a slump will raise its head again. That is inevitable. Also at that point the manager will have to deal with it.
So because it’s highly likely we’ll have to deal with the situation again it would be beneficial to have to face it with most of the same team and Manger.
In my opinion.
If we hit the slump with even greater momentum than we have in previous years then we can ride through it and still have a bit of momentum left for the rest of the season. Between Much Wenlock and Ironbridge in Shropshire there is a road two or three miles long, mainly downhill but with some undulations. On Saturday I got plenty of speed up and then stuck the car into neutral. To the delight of all occupants we made it all the way to the junction by Buildwas Abbey. If you take the top of the hill as August, the end of the road as May and the uphill bit as February it becomes apparent that you can coast through a patch where momentum is lost and still emerge from it and be able to accelerate to the finish. But it helps to have a driver who knows where the bends are, and parts where any cows might leap out into the road unexpectedly.
Have we been in a slump? Nobody has mentioned it.
Momentum is conserved not lost Vidal. One of the 5 rules of the universe. You just transferred some momentum to air molecules.
The universe's rules aren't my rules, Spart.
However, I will check the road between Much Wenlock and Ironbridge and if I have inadvertently left any of my momentum there I will scrape it off and, as you suggest, conserve it for future use.
So we have agreement.
Keep the same driver.
If not then the metaphor is lost on me and it follows that wasting 400 words setting it up was pointless.
.
I didn't know that the question was whether we should keep the same driver or not. I thought the driver was a given and that the question was whether having the same driver would make us more able to handle the annual slump than in previous years.
This is what happens if you don't have a title to your article. Nobody knows what you're on about, and even you appear to have forgotten.
I answered my article in the first comment.
I pretty much said that I thought keeping the same set up would bode well.
I don’t make it a stipulation for posters to read all my comments but if you are minded to have a pop it might be advisable to be sure of your ground, buddy.
To sum up then:
First you criticise for my not commenting on the premise of the article. I quote: "fook off onto the match thread and stop wasting my time."
Then you tell us that you had in fact answered your article with your first comment, rendering further comment superfluous.
Presumably therefore, the purpose of this article was for you to ask yourself a question and then for you to answer yourself, thereby closing the debate.
I am very grateful that this has been clarified and that I can now be sure of my ground. All that remains is to thank you for at least allowing us to witness your asking yourself a question, and then your answering yourself immediately. I think it's been your standout moment this year, so far.
Buddy.
Do you think this will make us more able to handle it next time round?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No - almost exactly the opposite.
(1) MM has said there won't be money to refresh the squad if we don't go up this season.
(2) I can see a small advantage flowing from GR being one year more experienced.
(3) In no way does (2) mitigate the fact that the oldest squad in the league will be a year older and in their heart of hearts will know they didn't have what it takes last time out when they were younger and fitter.
So, in summary, its 5h1t or bust, right here, right now.
