You’ve been a joy to watch this season. That’s hard to say.

Came up against a superior side and lost to three freak goals.

No shame in it.

I’ll still take any and every opportunity today to join in the wind ups, but you’ve done a good job repping the PL this year.

Think all of Egypt will be equally mortified this morning. Reports he will miss the World Cup.

Next CL is in Madrid. They will go all guns blazing for 4 in a row and at home.

On reflection in the cold light of day we were well beaten. As soon as Salah went off the team failed to function in attack and we posed very little threat. The gulf in class was stark when you see the subs Real can bring on. They have Bale we have Solanke.

We need a total clear out in the GK department including the coaching staff. How Achterberg stays in his job I will never know. It’s decade of poor goalkeeping while he’s been at the club. I would try for a player like Casillas to come in a player coach he’s got the winning mentality and experience to pass on to what is a key position in the team.

The bright side was at least the back four seem to have really improved.

In short the team needs a large investment this summer to move forward.

I fear it’ll be City’s to lose next year, but if Salah stays on form and Liverpool buy well it might be interesting.

Expect you to push City next year.

We will bore our way to 3rd probably the Europa League when we drop into that competition.

There’s got to be a point at which Ramos, Marcelo, Ronaldo and Modric start showing their age!

Ramos brought Salah down purposefully, then laughed as Salah had to go off, the proceeded to smash Karius with a forearm with the ball nowhere near him and then spent the rest of the game rolling around theatrically.

He's a great football but also the shining example of what is wrong with football.

As soon as Salah went off i put some money on Madrid to win in 90.

Feel for Liverpool, pretty bad way to get beat having done so well to get there.

Happy to see my boy Modric cement his legendary status, on the other hand. As i've been harping on for the past decade, one of the finest CMs of our generation

Salah has been the best player in the world this season, losing him so early on last night was a major blow but I was gutted at how the team responded to the set back.

To be honest the team reacted in the same way to Salah going off as they did all season, most notably against City and Roma: badly.

Not unexpected though. Our season was derailed by the Pogba injury early in the season after he’d started as our best player by a distance. Lost all momentum after that.

At the end of the day they deserve to win it. They are the best club in the world with some great quality players and quality will always shine through.

Very subjective statement to make.

Can think of at least 3 players who have been better and won things namely
Messi
Ronaldo
David Silva

But that’s just my opinion anyway

It's not about winning things, it's about being the best player and Salah has been. Scored and assisted more than any of those listed in what we are constantly told is a vastly inferior side.

To say David Silva had a better season than Salah, is laughable.
The other two, no real argument there.

Messi scored more than Salah.

Actually, if you look at all competitions then so did Ronaldo (50v48)

Good article, jlou.

Liverpool were a credit to themselves. Would be no surprise to see you back at the deep end of the CL soon given the way you've approached this year's competition and the reinforcements you're bringing/looking to bring in.

Some clubs just have it in their DNA. Liverpool's European Cup pedigree is beyond doubt.

Fwiw, I think last night was possibly the end of an era for Madrid. Replacing a generation of proven winners like this is going to be a very tall order.

The PL sides, generally speaking, have acquitted themselves very well this year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them take it a step further next season.
