He might not get another contract that is the same as he is on now I agree, but all that does is strengthen the idea that he will stay where he is before moving in a years time. Why would he take half the money when he will earn the same over 1 year and then can far more options open to him after that?!

We showed an interest. Club say “not for sale” but state how much they would want. Agents quotes wages. We say no thanks. Club later say they’re willing to sell/trade and player suddenly surplus to requirements after we’ve shown some bawz and said nah we’re not paying that. All part of the transfer circus to negotiate the best deal
