Well until they have an international football league with 274 games a season the World Cup is the only real barometer we have for showing who the best side in the world is.

They won't need to, a teams body of work over the coming years will determine the overall quality of a side and their place in history.
Greece and Denmark have big tournament wins but nobody has ever considered either of them to be the best side in Europe at the time of their victory.

Of my lifetime, certainly they would be the poorest world champions. My first world cup was '98 though, so I haven't seen many. To reach this World Cup final without having to play any of the likes of Brazil, Germany, Spain France and Belgium in the knockouts is remarkable. I've left out a ragged team like Argentina, who I'm positive England would have beaten. I'd have bet money on any of the other sides though.
