Dier or young for dud of the tournament.
Sterling whilst not scoring had several assists and the moment he was subbed against Columbia and Croatia they pressed forward way more than when he was on the pitch.
Walker was wasted in that back three formation.
Rashford poor
Trippier and Pickford probably get most plaudits.
Kane should have passed to sterling last night and it cost us.
Stones switched off at the worst moment.
Henderson was Henderson.
The Sub players didn't have much time really. Southgate has done well but some decisions were odd. Such as getting Rashford on at the 90th minute against Sweden.
Lingard, other than last night and a lack of goals, was pretty good. But he needs to add goals or creativity. Or both.
A bit harsh on Sterling. He doesn't deserve such a low rating.
Kane had goals, but overall he wasn't great. The system didn't suit and he ended up coming deeper. But that's more down to lack of any decent Cm. Henderson is good at what he does but he isn't one to control or set the tempo of the team.
Trippier was England's best player this tournament. As an RB, I don't think he's that good but as an RWB he seems like a different player.
The strangest thing watching both Sterling and Kane is how much they gave up on the ball or were caught completely flat footed.
The midfield wasn't great (certainly not blessed with brilliant vision) but they did play plenty of decent through balls that were good enough for an in form striker to capitalise on

Sterling whilst not scoring had sevetal assists
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rubbish. He had 1 assist. Was poor throughout.
Typical LQ biased.
Sterling did ok, did he feck.
The guy was wasteful in possession, got knocked off the ball way to easily and coulsnt finish his dinner.
Yet was rashford was the poor one?
Sterling Stats

Very poor from a no.10.

All the partisan shiiiit about my club players did great yours were awful is just daft. The team over achieved. There is a gap in midfield. The game passes England by in midfield, and the forwards struggle to get in the game. This isn't to slag off the players who did play, just to say that even one top class creative mf would transform things. I also think that there are some young players who will come through and make England a real international force.
I do rate Sterling. But lets call a spade a spade. He was poor and out of form.
We move on stronger and hopefully learn for the euros
Rashford did exactly what in this tournament?
If I’m biased then why did I say stones switched off, that goals on him.
Sterling has several assists this World Cup, Rashford has what?
Sterling didn’t have the best tournament but he ran d females ragged and it was the foul on him that led to the free kick we scored from.
This ain’t club rivalry it’s england performances I’m talking about.
Stop being an Eric.
Rashford also missed the target with our best opportunity against Belgium.
Ali never got over his injury.
England need a quality central mid fielder.
I'm going to be more realistic, taking into account that we beat 3 non-teams and lost to a good team and an average team.
Pickford- 7/10. Good for years to come if he keeps his feet on the ground.
Trippier- 7/10. Good delivery but disappears from game very quickly and very often.
Walker- 5.5/10. May seem harsh but defensively suspect. Two of the goals conceded in the tournament were directly his fault.
Stones- 6/10 Average centre back
McQuire- 7/10. Our best defender. Over-performed.
Young- 4/10. Terrible choice as a left wing back. Can't defend, bad positioning and right footed so always cut back during attacks.
Henderson- 6/10. I think he's done OK. Not blessed with great ability but prefer him to Alli and Lingard.
Alli- 4/10 Did nothing
Lingard- 4/10 Scored a goal but anonymous apart from that.
Sterling- 4/10. Wasn't good enough
Kane- 6/10. Our best player in terms of quality but shows we are lacking as a squad.
Rashford- 5/10 Not a winger and found it hard to effect games when he came on.
Dier- 5/10 meh!
Rest did not play enough to get a score.
Kane bottled it if we are honest. Lingard put it on a plate for him for us to put the game to bed and fluffed it.
Lingard had a decent change, Sterling has numerous good positions squandered.
A good tournament, great in terms of progression, but all in all a frustrating one after yesterdays game.
Pickfords stock has risen massively, wasteful with possession at times but pulled off some quality saves.
Distribution I meant to say.
Top 3
Pickford
Trippier
Maguire
Worst 3
Sterling
Ali
Young
England didn't have a prayer against a good team because midfield simply isn't good enough.
Sterling was pitiful. Easily worst player of the tournament.
Rashford wasn't overly great but in most of the games wasn't brought on early enough to have a proper effect and when was brought on the team were tiring and sinking back and back.
Thought Ali was poor throughout also.
The rest were either very good or decent
Would give Pickford a 9, Maguire an 8, both were absolutely brilliant.
I'd move Kane to a 5, need your captain to step up on a night like tonight and he was invisible. Has been throughout the knockout phase.

More or less what I have said. I just put lower numbers than the op to reflect that we only beat a couple of pub teams.
I maintain Kane was not fit for the last two games. He was incredibly slow and ponderous for the most part of both games

You think young was better than sterling?
Young literally did nothing of note.
He didn’t cross drive stretch or press he was awful.
Yeah Young was poor but he didn't cost £50m, come off the back of a great season and have a lot of expectations on him. Everyone already knew he was one of the more limited players in the team.
Sterling hasn't scored for England in 3 years. He's got 2 goals in 43 caps now. That's woeful.

To be fair though, the stats don’t back up your perception of the first two points at all. There’s plenty to criticise him for and I’d have him towards the bottom too, but losing possession or being knocked off the ball isn’t something he did bad comparably at all, in fact the complete opposite.

Yes he was better. Didn't get forward that well but produced some good crosses from corners which we scored from and was solid defensively.
What did Sterling do exactly. 1 assist and 0 goals in the whole tournament for someone that was stuck upfront. He stunk the place out

That’s not just his fault though. He’d have had three tap ins if other players had passed. That’s exactly what he does well for us - gets in to the right position for the final pass.
It would be interesting to see Southgates honest assessment of the squad. We won’t as he wouldn’t ever do it, but still
Would give Trippier, Maguire and Pickford 8's. Their first tournament and they delivered. The rest I would give no more than a 6.5 or less to.
