Jordan Henderson - Not Good Enough

Yeah maybe, a lot of that is down to the manager. Carra is a decent comparison I reckon and similar paths in their career.

Disagree with mobility Edin.

Horrendo having no help in midfield does not excuse his poor passing, wayward crossing, non existent goal threat and general lack of ability in an England shirt.

He’s good at what he does, but let’s face it, he’s no Xabi Alonso. Bar Lallana, England don’t possess a midfielder who’ll demand the ball and look to use it properly when the pressure is on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think anyone, least of all Liverpool fans who are the purported defenders of Henderson, would compare him to Alonso. Xabi was a cut above.

Having watched Henderson for a number of years, his recycling of possession is fine. Not Alonso good but it's fine. Despite the crab reputation he does look to hit forward passes regularly though so his possession stats will never be outstanding.

I'm just a bit baffled by the criticisms Henderson receives. He's a good player who had a good world cup. Nothing more, nothing less.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ve not said anything about Liverpool fans views on him

Ive not criticised him.

What’s with the defensive answers?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That really wasn't defensive and I'm sorry if it came across so.

There is a general consensus view that Liverpool fans defend Henderson because of club loyalties, was just trying to point out that we'd be the last people to compare Jordan to Xabi. Different gravy.

Lesley is such a cnt isnt he. Gets funny with a bloke and makes him apologise.

He hit one good ball for Sterling against Sweden that had Ferdinand comparing him to Pirlo. Then spent the rest of the next match trying to replicate it. Ended with a pass completion of about 70%, when you'd expect a good CM to be in the late 80's to early 90's.

henderson wasn't bad at the world cup, but you're not going to win with not bad.
most of england's players weren't bad.
there was no one that wasn't playing cb or keeper that was better than not bad.
henderson plays his part for liverpool, a team much better than england.

Not sure about that. Think England would beat Liverpool. Would get walloped by the top 3 though.

this chump does realise england were not losing until enderson was subbed?

Ended with a pass completion of about 70%

----------------

In the world cup? Unlikely considering that 71.7% was his lowest across the tournament and 87.5% was his highest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was talking of the Croatia match, not the whole tournament.

Wilshere?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He’s been fit for the majority of the last 2 seasons, fact is that he’s been average.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could also be talking about Lallana. His fitness issues and consistency are hardly great.

We know Kane and Alli also have not had great tournaments, even though Kane will probably get the Golden Boot, but we all know they have plenty in their locker. What you saw from Henderson is about as good as it gets. Very limited player, not his fault though that he keeps getting picked.

agree with all of this.

We still got further with Henderson at the heart of midfield than we ever did with Gerrard and Lampard.

Poor Hendo, he was bamboozled by Modric, Rakitic and Brozovic when they were all supposed to be knackered according to Rio and Neville. He didn't know what hit him

Jokes aside, he is an ok DM. For some reason England seemed to turn to him to control play, when really he shouldn't be allowed that much responsibility in CM. Dele and Lingard are just as big, if not bigger, culprits to why you surrendered control of the game to Croatia. Then again, applying a bit of perspective, there aren't many teams in world football who can match up against Modric, Rakitic and Brozovic

Henderson is a limited footballer, I’ve no problem with anyone saying that. It doesn’t mean that he isn’t a very good footballer though. Southgate basically hung him out to dry against Croatia though, he didn’t stand a chance. It was him against two of the best midfielders in world football for nearly all of his time in the pitch, no way is he going to be able to ‘pull the strings’ in that scenario. That was supposed to be the job of Alli and Lingard, so I’m genuinely baffled by some of the criticism on here. Certain posters knowledge, such as the op, is embarrassing.

He did well v the 2 bad sides, and struggled a bit v the 2 good ones.

If England persevere with this formation, I think a replacement for Henderson is key on the big stage, along with a tweak in the positions ahead of him..

Dier would not have done much if any better the way it was.

I would like to see how Winks does in the coming season - he anchored our midfield to good effect in Madrid last season, and it is where I see his position long-term. Good passing, with the nimbleness of foot to turn and carry the ball.

Ahead of that it is clear Alli, Lingard and Sterling has the wrong dynamic. One of the former has to make way, and perhaps Sterling can take up their position.

We then have to decide if we want Kane as a target man 9 and get a creative 10 in there (but who?) or play him at 10 and get a bit better work between the lines and bring a 9 in to play ahead of him

Terminator

Rather than just name calling, childishly, do you mind refuting any of my points? I'm pretty sure if you read the article fully you would see I said you cannot put the full blame on Henderson? Does that excuse the fact he had a diabolical performance? No
