The standard of refereeing was probably as bad as the technical standard of football in yesterday's game. Apart from 3 brilliantly taken goals, (Smalls, Nani and Torres) it was a mixture of Keystone Cops defending and Mickey Mouse finishing. Great entertainment maybe but hardly the best standard of football in the world. As it should be in the PL.
it was still offside. It doesn't matter about advantage etc. Teams push up deliberately to catch players offside and therefore it is a legitimate tactic and if the referee doesn't give it, it is a bad decision.
It'd be like me saying that Drogba's infamous goal couldn't be offside cos he was actually running away from the goal (left to right) - in fact his goal was a much tighter decision than the two yesterday.
UnitedRedMacca- I taught Rooney and berbatov the overhead kick (U2024)
Are you sure about that?
If so then that is a stupid rule if you ask me, so if a player is fouled just outside the area as he is about to shoot then it's not a red (rightly so), but if the exact same incident happens just inside the area it's a straight red and penalty? Seems harsh to me.
I know the media and especially MOTD seem to make up their own rules every week but I always assumed the 'last man' rule was actually correct.

erm... no, Drogba was over a yard offside almost a metre, no way near the same

No. There is absolutly 100% no rule about The Last Man
As I said, it is a red card id the defender is deemed to have illegally prevented a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Oh right, well that doesn't surprise me, the MOTD pundits make up rules all the time.
I remember how they would constantly refer to the 'daylight' rule for offsides when that rule had been changed years before. And some of the offside lines they make in their analysis are unbelievably dubious.

And Drogba was through on goal, Nani was near enough on half way line with the whole Chelsea defence and midfield in front of him.
Gained no advantage at all. Drogba gained massive advantage as he went straight through and scored.
It's not about gaining an advantage, if you are in an offside position no matter where you're going you are still offside.
I agree that it seems harsh but that is the rule and Nani should have been flagged offside.
As far as I can remember Drogba's was about a yard offside but then that's why football's great, if everything was decided by robots there wouldn't be much debating afterwards would there.
I saw the same match xiuxiuejar did.
But I'll admit I'm biased.
The result was completely inverted from the performances.
A couple of quick points:
I don't amire the way Chelsea played, they came to Ot and tried to play our game, had they set up more defensively they might have got a draw or even won.
Secondly, I watched the game back last night and I think we had 56% of the ball, now I'm no maths genius but to me that's 12% more. So Ic an't see how they were viewed as dominant. The aim of the game is to score goals, not creat a pile of chances that you miss.
Utd had best chances, Chelsea were shooting from distance or missing target.
We both only had 1 legitimate goal, we rode our luck but Chelsea also made their own mistakes, strange game but I'm not complaining.
"Utd had best chances, Chelsea were shooting from distance or missing target."
You clearly weren't watching the same game as everyone else then. Nearly all of Chelsea's chances were inside the 6 yard box!
United got two very fortunate decisions go their way in the game which resulted in two goals. And an extremely soft penalty; I don't mind that too much though as it led to a great bit of comedy.
Chelsea exposed United's weakness quite glaringly yesterday, and on another day, with better finishing and better linesman, it would have been a pretty heavy home defeat for the Reds.
Of course, there's yet another Man U Media campaign at the moment to paint United as the best team in world football ever. And the way they all jumped on Torres today for his miss was absolutely pathetic.

Could you be anymore bitter.
Care to name alll these chances within the 6 yard box for Chelsea? I can't think of one....
Chelsea had a few attempts from range, probably thinking (like a lot of other teams) thats the way to beat De Gea, didnt work though

If Chelsea exposed Utd's weakness what on earth did Utd do to Chelsea's weakness ?
We hit woodwork twice, had one cleared off line. Easily could have scored another 4 goals in second half.
Never said Chelsea didn't have chances but Utd had loads and looked like scoring every time we got forward.
Name all the chances? What shall I name them? Bonny, jess, Adrian?
Watch the game again...
Lets not forget we had Rio and Vidic out, and then Smalling went off injured.
Fletcher only playing his second game in 6 months (bad mistake by Fergie)
Jones as good as he is and he is very good at going forward he needs to stop being so attacking, he was playing centre back yet stormed into the box to set up 3rd goal.
I reckon he could be an awesome Central midfielder, he has talent and all the attributes to be a top central midfeilder.

Good answer
Redmacca - He actually said chances in the 6 yards box...... where there was none
Are you lot serious? Try watching the game again, without your silly red tinted specs on. Enjoy.
I think his main point is Chelsea had chances that on most other days they would have scored, inside or outside the 6 yard box.
(U4234) is right that Chelsea exposed United's weakness in defence but to me that's a good thing because hopefully it will make us less complacent, realise that although Jones looks brilliant he is still young and prone to mistakes and that when we get Vidic back (the best CB in the world) we will be even better.
If you can't admit Chelsea were unlucky and on another day could have got something out of the game then you're being delusional. It was a great game and a surprise to see Chelsea play the way they did but that helped it become a entertaining game, we rode our luck and so did they and we did well to win.
