Good article mate. And yes Spurs will definitely need another midfielder to replace Dembele. Probably OK for this season, but a must for next season. I think the club know that, and will plan accordingly.

for me Dier is a CB in a back 3/5 or DM in front of a back 4, only.

Lloris
Trippier/Aurier Toby Verts Rose
Dier
Dembele Eriksen
Dele Lucas/Lamela
Kane

He proved a few times last season that he is good there and can almost replicate the role Pjanic currently does for Juventus.

However with Winks and Dembele looking like they have the #8 position covered this season I think there is no need to move Eriksen further back.

Could play Lamela there he loves a tackle

No as a pure CM but as a CM in a 3 Man Midfield he can play.

A new top class Cm has to be priority

Was good to see Winks back again on Saturday

Eriksen played on the left of a midfield diamond for Ajax back in the day when he was making a name for himself.

He used to control/dictate the play for them and had freedom to join the attack when he saw fit. He was disciplined but still had 3 other midfielders to help out with defensive work. Not so much tacking...just positional discipline.

You guys though usually play with 2 holding mids and 1 or 2 attacking mids. Are there games where you sort of flip the triangle in midfield and play 1 holding mid with 2 other midfielders? Eriksen could play in one of those midfield roles and I wager he'll be very good at it.

Could be something to experiment on against the weaker teams.

Not a pure CM. Another that would need to play in a 3 or further up the pitch

We've done it a few times (often when chasing a game) that he plays in the double pivot with Eric Dier.

Wanyama
Winks Eriksen

That midfield can work imo. Especially against the 2 banks of 4 teams in this league.

It could, but I (and Poch, usually) tend to think that we will do better playing 3-4-2-1. The midfield 3 you have quoted would mean either a centre back would miss out (and the RB and LB play further back) or an AM misses out. Neither of which I would like to see.

eriksen is basically an AM?

surely a 3421 would have even less room for AMs in it?

with our midfield and full back options and the particular personnel, 4 at the back is better for us now imo especially games we are expected to win

Which CB would you leave out?

quite straight a forward decision really. we cant play 3 at the back just because we have 3 good CBs. Sanchez is young and developing, will do a job if back 3 becomes more suited and coming in if Jan/Toby are unavailable.

i was quite for the 3 at the back but as we are set on Dier being a midfielder this changes my opinion

For whatever reason, I think if Poch has the choice between Toby and Sanchez, he'll pick Sanchez.

So for me I'd rather three at the back because that means Toby plays.

If Toby signs a new contract tomorrow he picks Toby every day of the week IMO.

He's not signing though.

Same. I also think Sanchez is being a bit hard done by, I think he had a brilliant season last season and a great world cup - deserves to start.

I have a glimmer of hope that he may based on the fact that 6 months down the line he may be comfortable and think it is worthwhile just signing that 150 contract, or maybe we can may offer him more.

Realistically though, you are probably right.
