What if my wife has more money than me and her family is rich...oh, and the whole kid thing. Marriage helps with that too.

That's why I said save it for Opera or a Kardashian. Plenty of people have kids outside of wedlock...I'm actively not trying to be a dad but I've had a few scares myself. Imagine if I was trying?

It is quite funny (especially when you read some of his post-divorce comments). But seriously, 350 million squid lol. She took him to the cleaners. Guys this is serious.

My mrs is pretty rich as she has taken over the directorship of her family business. If I marry her and then we get a divorce will she have to give me half??

Not about kids outside wedlock. My first was. It's more about simplifying legal issues with kids if you were to break up. Also tax benefits regarding being able to leave money to your kids etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not an expert on this, but I'm pretty sure that just by living with someone or by having you name on the birth certificate, you can become legally responsible for that kid. I'm not sure if getting married makes that fairer, but if you get married you may have to pay alimony on top of child support.

With regards to that and inheritance tax etc, it really depends on how much you intend to earn over your lifetime and when you want to give that up.

I'm pretty sure Duncan wanted to hang onto his cash a little bit longer before leaving it to his wife and kids (should the kids see any of it).

Duncan had to hand over 350 mill out of 420. Marry her and enjoy. Anything less than 80% would be an insult to you tbf.

Getting married was his worst business decision.

............

If he managed to lose 350 million out of 400 million then he has a lot more issues than making a bad decision getting married.

He obviously hired a really crap divorce lawyer.

I believe she does have a leg to stand on, but only one. The right one to be precise.

Not really. I said it simplifies things, in terms of costs of getting to the same place you would if you were married. Also, regarding inheritance tax, you're talking about around 400,000 which is nothing is a property is involved. You can also reduce income tax on savings etc to fall in line with the lowest earner of the couple, which you can't do if you aren't married.....

re: this is super generic, I'm not sure how to reply to this

re: If you're a business owner, contracter or earning over a certain bracket, there are much easier ways to get income tax down than getting married... IF you eventually end up giving 80% of your wealth to your spouse anyway it becomes pretty pointless saving a few quid on income tax.

According to Wikipedia Heather Mills was awarded a total of £24.3m in the divorce in 2008 - currently she is a "businesswoman" worth £24.3m.

Wtf has she been doing all this time?

There is as a major court ruling recently in favour of non married couples m any perks or benefits for being married are now no existent due to this ruling.

So there's literally no need to bother getting married from this day forth unless that's what you want to do. But we all know most fail, so you might as well save yourself the £10/15k you'd of saved to pay for everyone to have a meal and a few drinks for a day
