No its not

Why would we give posh a mention when you get about two fans per game.

No

I didn't mention Posh becasue they are not a good example of a team doing well in the championship after coming up from Div 1. Simple, they are one of the 'exceptions'.

posted on 19/9/11

Agreed jacko! Posh got hammered week in week out 2 years back, not a gud example! !

posted on 19/9/11

Posh are not a good example because when they went up the came back down ,like a tone o bricks and all.

the championship is probably the worst division for paying silly money to very average players.

thus when teams come up the decent quality division one players are certainly on a par if not better than the load of overpaid over rated championship players.

the trick is to keep your squad as intact as you can, a la norwich....

leicester are now trying to buy the promotion and if it works then all well and good, if it does not work they could well end up deep in the brown smelly stuff..

they seem to be just buying players ad hoc rather than just getting the best available in key areas.

johnson at our place is a good example of paying handsomely but getting the right one. anyone with the backing can buy players but can they get the right ones???

Good thread Jacko,
Is 'our' Div stronger than the Champs'....NO,
But I'd say your spot on about the promoted sides being more than capable after promotion.

I tend to disagree when I see league 1 mentioned as a 5h17 league, The FA Cup fixtures sometimes prove
this, with what is in effect, 3rd division teams having good cup runs,
& I sometimes watch Championship games on TV & wonder what all the fuss is about..(Re-TOWN holding their own if promoted)
But holding onto 'the Footballers' in the team is a must for continued success.. & a large fan support base comes in very handy in this respect, ...Brighton & Saints up around the 20 k & 25 k+ respectively, P'boro less so & the (arguably) best players gone.
Hence the present positions.........

I guess we could agree that maybe the top 6 or 8 teams in Div 1 would all be good enough, by and large, to hold their own in the Championship ?

WHich brings me back to my last point, why don't the Football league accelerate the promotion of Div 1 teams by allowing 4 up rather than 3. We have 4 down, so why not 4 up. This would at least enable the cream to rise to the top more quickly than at present.

I have to disagree with you there Jacko! Yes, the cream does rise to the top. That is why the best two teams get automatic promotion.

I can't help but think there is a tinge of desperation in your last comments. Prefering to have four teams going up. Not too confident in Town getting an auto place? Can't blame you there though, Mr Clark must prove his mettle this season!

Hmm LV, I might argue there is desperation in your opinion that only 3 go down from the Championship and not 4 ?
Same number of teams in all 3 lower divisions so why should the ups and downs not be all the same ?

there is no logical reason other than protectionism ...and I also think 4 should come up from the conference because the majority of those teams that come up do very well too.

It's a rational arguement I reckon.

Jacko, each division is different, in the championship. 3 up, 3 down, league 1, 3 up 4 down, League 2, 4 up 2 down.

I would have liked 4 up last season !! .

Lets hope its a blessing in disguise & we can celebrate with a championship winning trophey !!

Wethers, yes it would be nice to complete the 'set' and win the 3rd division title...but I'd settle for 2nd if need be.

I still can not see why, with 24 teams in all 3 lower divisons, and the conference, that the ups and down aren't all the same...what is the justification if not some form of 'priority' or protectionism..?

Anyway, it ain't going to happen this season, but I think it will change some time..and quite rightly in my opinion. Div 1 is the only league with more down than up...

I watch Derby on TV quite regularly, that dodgy satellite receiver at the pub is helpful, and go to the odd match when its cheap or free tickets and must say the quality I witness isn't notably better than that I see in League 1. Not as different as many Championship supporters would like to believe. Granted most of my experience is when Derby is involved, and they aren't the greatest, but I do see a variety of teams and I'm very much of the opinion that we would be top half of the table on our promotion and sit there quite comfortably. I'd like us to spend a couple of years in the Championship strengthening our base before we pushed for promotion to the Premier, I'd hate us to become cannon fodder for the big guns, although the likes of Norwich have proved that doesn't have to be the case.

lets get up first Derby, although we are playing well, we are still getting too many draws, should be a big home win Saturday though !! !!

posted on 20/9/11

Nothing wrong with a bit of forward planning Its just the way I'd like the next few years to roll out for us

I may actually be able to make the game on Saturday, first game for me since Bury, which would be nice and definitely should be a big win in my opinion.

Sadly I'll miss next 4 games as am away for 3 weeks, but I'll be glued to a TV somewhere for the results. A nice 3-0 or 4-0 against Orient would be good, but things don't always turn out as you expect and if Town haven't 'notched' after half an hour or so the expectancy could turn into angst ..or worse..

posted on 20/9/11

I'd take a 1-0 victory now for Saturday

posted on 20/9/11

After the last few games I would be disappointed if we win by only 1 goal.

posted on 20/9/11

wins all = 3 points! Anything more than 1-0 is a nice bonus I was not expecting. By only expecting a 1-0 win it wont feel like a loss to me because we didn't tonk 5 past em.

posted on 20/9/11

Won't feel like a loss to me, just seems we are due to give someone a good pasting, and following our recent games I really think this could be it!

posted on 20/9/11

With Charlton & Preston's form a 1-0 will do, but 6 would be nice !!

is this a joke thread from 1 of L1'S regular tenants?
