Finances: overall, they're pretty healthy. Revenues are at record highs (expected to leapfrog United's in the next Deloitte report), and we've consistently been posting profits for several years now; debt is manageable; €575M stadium redevelopment loans are set to be spread out over 30-40 years. Factor in that we still hold naming rights, which, if sold, could pay for a large chunk of the redeveloment costs. Budget for the season under way expects another +€40M profit, even including a €45M provision for stadium costs.
Mariano no.7: give it to a former academy player as an example to current academy kids and, more importantly, is less likely to kick up a stink if he has to hand it to a star signing next season.
On signings in recent years: we've been at the limit of our Liga-imposed salary cap. Recent successes will probably have triggered performance & appearance-related pay rises. Think Neymar or Mbappé could only come if it were with PSG's blessing, and I don't think we were totally sold on Hazard considering the potential overall cost of the deal including transfer, signing on bonuses and wages.
I think Pérez banked on the side being good enough to scrape its way through this season without suffering too much damage, also in the off-chance that either Vinicius or Rodrygo developed to such an extent that one of them could be painted as a new Galáctico.

How can Neymar go to Real when he was a Cule, the fans won't stand for it?
The persistence with Benzema is odd. He worked well as a foil for Ronaldo, but what they need now is an out and out goalscorer, and In don't think Benzema is that player. Lack of options on the market mind - Kane too expensive, Lewandowski and Cavani not getting any younger etc

Like Figo you mean?
They'll love him all the more for it if he joins and does the business.
