Maybe they should just stop the clock to allow subs in extra time.

I see the advantages to clock stopping in the game but as soon as they do that I can see adverts mid game.

Once ball is passed the halfway line it can't be brought back by the same team

1 step penalties with a time limit. None of this delaying and delaying waiting for the keeper to dive first.

All quite logical and not that radical. Sort the handball rule out, make players leave by nearest touch line, ban sub time-wasting. Perhaps the penalty rebound rule apparently being discussed is most ‘radical’ would be nice to at least know the rationale behind them debating this.

Something needs to be done about time keeping. I wrote an article about it the other day.

I like most of these rules.

What’s the big deal with wasting with subs? The ref is supposed to add the time on anyway and then it doesn’t always help because the opposition can always score in the added on time for the delay e.g. United conceding against Chelsea a few weeks ago.

Points system based on goals scored/conceded i.e. 2-0 = +2pts for 1 team and -2pts for the loser

Neither team gets anything for a draw.

The subs aren't necessarily to waste time. Its also about killing the rhythm of the game and easing pressure on the backline.

I am favour of this rule change.

It won't help Spurs as I've never seen Hugo save a pentalty but changing the rule is only fair as far as I'm concerned. Nothing worse then when your keeper makes a great save only for the taker to follow it up and pass the ball into an empty net.

Time keeping should not be done by the ref but if this changes prepare for games to go on for much longer. Currently if a player needs treatment in the middle of the pitch they go down the staff have to get to them then treat them and get off the pitch. This always seems to take much longer than the time that is added on.

Jose tried to time waste in that game with subs. He bought one sub on and then a minute late bought another sub on. Backfired in the end cos there was 6 minutes injury time.

The penalty rule is nonsense, it gives the defending team an advantage and increases the incentive to foul to prevent a goal scoring opportunity. Why they’re trying to make penalties harder is bizarre.

I like the time-keeping proposal but let’s be honest subs in injury time are far from the root cause. If the referee and 4th official did their jobs properly there would be no need for this. If a player is time-wasting he should be booked, simple as. I hate when a keeper wastes time for the entire match and then gets a token booking in the 85th minute.

Automate timekeeping. Assign expected length of stoppage to a goalkick or substitution (e.g. 15/30 seconds) and if a team takes longer the time is automatically added on. Genuinely no idea why timekeeping is still applied subjectively, it’s not a matter of opinion.

This would certainly phase out bus parking although would be quite unfair on lesser teams who need the point they get from draws to help stay in a division.

Timekeeping is difficult. I remember years ago when Sky Sports had Keys and Gray and doing the analysis. They recorded the time the ball was actually in play in a half and it was something like 25 minutes and often less.

A team can waste time every time a ball can go out. People deliberately take longer to take a throw in so this timekeeping would have to be applied to that as well.

If a team is winning 1-0 from early on and time wastes until the 88th minute and then the other team equalises, does the time still get added on if it benefits the team that was time wasting?

What about 3-3 & 4-4??

Some draws are hard fought.

As a Spurs fan, watching the second half against PSV was infuriating. The half was so stop-start and the ball spent so much time out of play. Obviously made worse by the fact that we needed to score twice.
