Sir Walter of Smith had similar success in a more competitive era and almost took rangers to champions league final in 1993. I get your point though, first 7 tournaments entered domestically.

Jock Stein has to be Celtics greatest manager though surely. Jock had success at domestic and international level in an era of a strong rangers and strong domestic league.
