He just wanted Christmas off

That’s a shame for him and us, not really what we need, especially at this stage of the season. Hopefully the rest does him good.

Why wouldn’t he? They are the people in charge of looking after the players after all

To me calling the sports medical team with acute abdominal pain is like calling them with acute left sided chest pain, it’s an emergency.

Again these are the people in charge of his welfare. Any medical issues the players would have to go to them.

Also he just had stomach pain not a heart attack.

Unexplained acute abdominal pain is an emergency like a heart attack - aka acute chest pain (it doesn’t mean it’s a heart attack - it does mean it should be triaged as such at emergency services where best treatment can commence if it is so). Acute abdo pain is one of the most common presenting features in any acute service in hospital and would need immediate management to make sure it’s not a number of serious things.

But you’re right I guess players are probably told to come go the sports medical team for nearly all things medical, it’s just in my mind acute abdo pain is an emergency. Oh well, either it’s not an issue in this case as he was sorted out.

Can imagine for footballers the medical team are available 24/7, probably could get to them nearly as quick as ambulance! Most likely have on call doctors available to them.

Well I’ve had my appendix out and while the pain is very bad you can still can get about fine.

Also the pain comes and goes so imagine he was getting stomach not knowing what it was ( the club originally though he had a virus ) so went to the medics in charge of his welfare and they went about diagnosing the problem.

Ouch!

Have had that, it’s awful.

Fair enough, tbh i did think more about how far a club’s medical resources go it’s probably not dissimilar to calling 111 and if it sounds serious they’ll just say get on your bike to the hospital.

Yeah appendicitis is meant to be very painful, at its worst patients can’t move.

I remember when I was young my mother had hers taken out and she was writhing in pain from memory. I hope I never go through it.

If it's just inflamed then yes it is uncomfortable, pain can come and go over several days or weeks possibly. If the appendix ruptures though it is extremely painful, needs immediate attention and potentially life threatening as peritonitis can rapidly set in.

Our injury list is never ending, I`d like to see the other clubs in the top 6 deal with a similar amount of injuries that we have had.

On a positive note, Dier will get a good rest over xmas and come back refreshed some time in the new year.

No.

More like Irritable Bowel Syndrome or something.

isnt the appendix a completely redundant part of your body?
