Well done Oldie, you passed the test. At least now I know that there is someone who takes the trouble to read what I write

Would freshen things up a little, doc looks shattered so maybe Jonny and vinagre for this one and perhaps Saiss for one of the midfield, Neves perhaps.

Cav was very lively when he came on last night but would still prefer Jota and Jimenez as the front two.

One thing that cannot happen is wasting a shirt on Costa anymore til he sees a shrink.

Without Doc we lose 40% of our attacking outlets. As long as he has 2 legs that still work I would start him and maybe swap him for Adama in the second half.

It's not just Costa who is under performing though. MGW has gone right off the boil and was virtually invisible last night.

Gem - your welcome. Your intros are worth reading, unlike some....

I was a little surprised that he didnt freshen things up a little last night to be honest. Vinny & Saiss coming in for Doherty and Neves/Donk woudl make sense. Cav starting ahead of Jota wouldnt be crazy either. Jota from the bench for half an hour would be a weapon.

Thanks bud

As you and Cinci suggest he may well freshen it up a bit on Saturday but knowing his penchant for keeping the same starting 11 I suspect he won't.
My own opinion is that we are about 4-5 players light in the squad and some of the regulars could do with a bit of a break now. Neves, Costa, Cav, Jimenez and Doc would all benefit from a couple of weeks rest IMO.

I didn't think MGW looked too bad when he first came on, was busy, looking for the ball and we were building up a head of steam and actually looked very much the most likely to win.

But then he took off Jimenez and brought on Costa and i am not sure we went near their box again and finished much the stronger. Losing Jimenez was the bigger factor here of course, after that we had no focal point at all. I don't expect anything from Costa these days anyway, 5 touches last night to Cavs 27(an extra 13 minutes only)

I said early season when we didn't make changes that it isn't healthy and i still maintain that. Players need to feel their spot is under pressure and that they have to perform, no changes allows them to pick and choose games and now a bumper FA cup tie is on the horizon a few will certainly be playing within themselves, its just the way it is.

I fear we will see this season end rather feebly.

There's no getting away from the fact that we have, by far, the smallest squad in the Premier League. That's Nuno's choice and it may be coming back to bite him in the butt.

The 18 players he had last night are what he has to work with and it's my opinion that with a squad that small you have to rotate, both the squad and the formation you play. We are light as Gem suggests, but that's Nuno's decision and defeats against the lower clubs is not the way to progress in this league.

If we can't go away on a midweek night in the UK and get results, then European nights are way too soon for a squad of this size.

I hoped for a top half finish this season and I'm sure that's what we'll get, but I feel the club's owners are trying to run before we can walk. This is a tough league to get anywhere near a top six finish and the points gap between the top six and 7th spot is highlighting that fact.

Nuno will get it right, I'm positive of that, but let's not forget that this is his first season in the top flight of English football and hopefully he and the players have learned a lot from the experience thus far and with a much needed boost with better players come the summer, we can maybe solidify that 7th spot next season and maybe start pressing for even higher goals.

Adding one player in January and I am positive we would have taken seventh and all the benefits financially that come with that.

We may not get a shot at seventh for a few years after this so it's a massive wasted opportunity.

posted on 27/2/19

Im not so sure that 7th and possibly higher wont be out of our reach in the coming seasons. Chelsea are going to fall back in my opinion, Everton are already distracted by a stadium move and wont spend as big as they have, Arsenal are still under achieving for reasons unknown.

Leicester may be a bit stronger under Rodgers and Watford look to be doing things right still. But with the right investment I think we can hold our own with those, but we will need to strengthen without a doubt and bring some depth to the squad.

I agree we should goldi but many teams before us have been capable and failed miserably and then just toss in an injury to a key player or two and it's a dead season.

Fact is we were seventh, others are/were a mess and we stood still when we could have capitalized this season.

Tough though to bring guys in in January. We still dont have an established reputation, decent players, (especially goal scorers), are more likely to go to Everton, Leicester or even Watford at the moment. But that will change.

In that case goldi why move on options and leave ourselves with basically none.

Afobe or Bonatini would be better options to replace Jimenez than anyone we have at the club currently unless he gives Ennis a chance but that won't happen now.

I think it dawned on him that he will never come out on top in the cav v Costa debate so finally gave up after three years

Dunno, I get the impression that the club felt it had enough goals in house between the forwards we have. Like you I think this was an error or maybe a strategical one to allow the club to point to a lack of goals this season in order to leverage more funds from Fosun in the summer.
