Rewatched the final

As u say it was the front players, they just didn't turn up, Alli, Son and Eriksen especially, at the end of the day a striker is reliant on the players around him a lot of the time, Kane held the ball up well at times, got in good areas but the final ball just wasn't there.

Good read also.

Absolutely no way will I be watching any highlights of that game

Your analysis seems pretty fair from my drunken recollection, and probably brings that 'what if' feeling back to me again

If we can get it right in the transfer market we will be a force next season. The core of the team is excellent and the areas of weakness are obvious.

sorry but kane had less touches than any player on the pitch and should never of started

Him and son dont play well together and last 2 times kanes come back hes been poor for 5-6 games

Poch was just man enough to make the call so shoehorned kane into the team and then kept him there for 90 mins

Front player were not help by midfield and defenders slowing everything down and going back to lloris all the fking time ,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Strikers almost always have the least amount of touches, that's standard

I don't believe for one second that Poch starts any player other than believing it's for the good of the team

And nope the front players were the most culpable wasted opportunities time and time again

You're brave watching it again

I was thinking of doing the same because my recollection is a bit hazey but decided against it.

Wonder if we would have created more with Kane on the bench, Son in the middle and Eriksen and Lucas behind/out wide.

I doubt it...

I was happy with Kane starting, just annoyed that Lucas was dropped! Might have been more of a game with Lucas' pace on the wing.

Lucas barely ever plays wide anyway. He darts in and around the main striker

Congratulations on the 'we were the better team' trophy.

Unfortunately you bottled winning the game and we took home the real trophy. Have a good summer

BTs CL final highlights. Considering Spurs had twice the amount of shots on target Liverpool had the majority of the highlights or atleast even excluding the goals and thats with Spurs push on Matip and Eriksen sending it to row Z as 2 of spurs main chances, Spurs best was Mouras forcing a low save out of Alisson but even still id say Milners was a better chance.

They didnt include a few obv inc Mane poor touch where he could have gone down for another pen as Jenas said live.

There were many situations where we were attacking 2v2/3v3/4v4 which didn't lead to attempts on goal which therefore don't come up in the highlights. Either due to poor final passes, poor decision making or good defending by your CBs

Things that stuck in my mind were:

1) Son being played through in the first half, from a great ball from deep, and weirdly not using his pace, but slowing down letting VDV get involved (good tackle to be fair)

2) Son getting penalised for handball when bringing the ball down in the area, and it absolutely was not handball

3) Ali on the edge of their box and playing the heaviest / worst ball through about ten yeards ahead of where it needed to be

I can't watch it again, it's too frustrating

Good analysis Analog and I agree with pretty much all of what you’ve said. Haven’t and won’t be watching the game back as it was a tedious affair, but was sober enough at the time to see what was going on.

Agree Rose was out MoTM. Sadly for him he had to get through a lot of work as there was no attacking option in front of him to play off. Sissoko has obvs been told to support/cover Trippier, hence him handballing in the RB position after 26 seconds. Lloris and the acknline passed it around their press well, although there were a few forced errors. Winks was our other best player.

The front 3 really did let us down, Dele was insipid and Eriksen took his hugely indifferent form that has plagued him since Xmas into the biggest game of his life. I’m quite piiiissed off with the pair of them at the moment. Dele has a huge season next season to prove his worth. This year we can put down to WC fatigue, burn out, injury. He gets a pass. But we need the old Dele back next term. Eriksen’s head/heart do not seems to be at Spurs anymore. I hate to think of us selling him, but if he’s not motivated to be at the club any longer he has to go. He’s had a great six years.

I was in favour of Kane starting, but not at the expense of Moura; I feel that was a poor decision by Poch regardless of the result. LM has been in much better form than Son of late, could’ve used Sonny as a sub instead. Or indeed Dele. Man scores a hat trick to win you the semi he has to start the final, end of.

I actually totally agree re Sissoko. Have said myself while he’s a powerhouse that has really stepped up to the plate this season he is so technically limited. Should be a good squad option along with Winks and two new top quality CM’s (with Wanyama and Dier going the other way).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah agree with pretty much all of this

Think I would keep Dier around tho. If Wanyama leaves he's our only DM and he can cover CB if necessary. Needs to regain his form tho, big time

Good article although I don’t think Sissoko was particularly good.

I think that injury was his perfect chance to get off the pitch.

Same for us, Origi must have had about 5 himself, couldnt complete a pass having found himself in good positions between the lines.

problem is if we dont want Sissoko starting next season we need 2 DM/CMs and an AM also and thats possibly before Eriksen leaves . What category is Lo Celso? AM?

yeah defo keep Dier good DM option(if does his job properly like he has shown he can in the past) and an option at CB.
