Don we aren’t getting a whole new defence in jan ffs be realistic.

Where has Verts said he don’t want to be here?

If we say put a defence out off say KWP Foyth Sanchez Sessegnon then we are completely finished this season.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

And they are going to be any worse than the s^* we are seeing now ? 7-2 and 3-0 losses in our last 2 games ? I know it’s not ideal but yes I would like to see Rose etc all dropped. Vertonghen is clearly having issues aswell, that’s pretty crystal clear and his performances are showing it. We need a top class centre back in Jan and a new Right back. That’s not a whole new defence is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That would probably mean spending more in a January window than we did in the summer.

It feels strange saying after we conceded 10 goals in a week but I didnt feel like Toby or jan looked bad in either games

Our defensive issues is a team problem / FB issues.

Having players continually run at our CBs is the issue.

Also you said “ We need a new defence in Jan “

Plenty of good players in this country, that we continually miss out on, Madison , Wan Bissaka etc etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Continually?

For instance we didn’t “miss” out on AWB as being sold for £50m to a top club isn’t a miss.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
had we gone for him though and the qualities he has shown in his young career, one could argue we wouldn't be having nearly as many defensive problems as he would've resolved our issues at right back in a heartbeat

£50m for him, in my opinion looks a steal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No chance.

£25m for Sessegnon is a potential steal.

£50m for AWB is absolute top whack especially when considering he’s been nowhere close to the top RBs this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the fact that he is considerable upgrade on all 3 Right Backs we currently have at our club, is young with a huge amount of potential, I'd say it's a steal

playing devils advocate, i could argue we were rinsed on Sess seen as though he was poor in the prem last year, had 1 year left on his deal and was injured at the time of signing and continues to be injured
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Poor ffs

He had stats that stacked up against better players but was in a incredibly poor team.

Playing devil advocate AWB going forward had the same stats as kwp but with 30 extra appearances

Like I say not paying £50m for a player isn’t missing out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
but at the same time, paying £50m for a player isn't always poor business

Playing Ndombele in CM atm is also a huge issue.

Literally not said that.

My comment to DaveanDanny paying too whack for a player to a top team isn’t missing out.

Missing out on a player is not getting them before the blow up ie Maddison (who I’m sure already turned us down once).

I don’t literally mean 4 new players new defence as in a top class centre back and right back. Spend 70/80 mil on 2 players, very realistic with the right players. Wether our bald tight fi. sted friend will sanction it is another matter.

word on the street is that the Spurs hierarchy are considering selling Kane in the summer for the right money in order to reinvest it into the squad...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

no way. would be a way too unpopular move
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A proper DM might be a good idea in Jan for what is likely gonna be a young & inexperienced back 4 going forward

If we didn’t buy to strengthen problem areas in the summer, it ain’t going to happen in Jan👍

posted on 12/10/19

Levy HAS to do something in January for at least two reasons:
1. Offset the loss of Eriksen for such a paltry return, having totally misjudged the player and continuing the obvious failed strategy of contract carrots.
2. The club's poor performance will likely continue to a point by January where there will be no excuse for not strengthening the squad.
The Dybala negotiations should be starting now.
Levy has to justify his salary ..... that's a third reason!

————————————

Your third reason is flawed Ted...........................

Levy is behind Lewis the largest shareholder in Spurs, he has put his own money into supporting the infrastructure. He has put the club on very strong financial footings and we are one of the most profitable clubs in the World.

We were never in a position to challenge other clubs in terms of spending until we were in a position to raise our income exponentially.

We are now approaching that position, but it will still take a couple of years to put us at the level of spending that Liverpool, Arsenal et al are at.

Regarding Dybala, how do you know we have not been negotiating for him already? It is a complicate image rights package which stopped him coming in August, and it still could be difficult in January.

I do not believe it is a lack of funding that has seen us have a poor start this season. I think it’s a combination of attitude, injuries, confidence and these can have a massive impact on a team’s performances.
I also think there has been a reaction mentally in some players to the defeat in the CL final.

6 years ago we would not have been as agitated in the same position, which shows how far the club has come in that time.

The club cannot do much if a player refuses to even consider lucrative contracts offered, which is what Eriksen has apparently been doing.

What is unforgivable to me, is that same player just going through the motions of playing. Eriksen has been poor since March and I could forgive him wanting away if he at least showed he was giving 100% whilst still wearing the shirt

posted on 12/10/19

GG ... agree about Eriksen. Buty Levy totally misjudged the guy.
Now the no buy anyone season - remember - was a season we should have been hiring for the future.
When Levy did start buying again, who did he get? Aurier and Sanchez ... WOW what bargains!!
Its the bargain basement mentality that is costing us now.
The squad needs to replace at least 6 players with top class, and I mean top class, replacements by end of season.
And that chore should have begun already.
Now I don't know if Levy is still trying to get Dybala, but given his record, Would you bet on it?

posted on 12/10/19

Hi Ted

Surely Levy is advised by the coaches and manager in regard to personality etc of players

I totally agree that we should have bought better in other areas though, especially in defence. Although I do think Sanchez willcome good for us, and Foyth also. I did have high hopes for Aurier, but so far he is a liability too often

See Juve are trying to offload Rabiot in exchange for Eriksen.

This guy is trouble & I doubt Poch would want him anywhere near our dressing room

Rabiot also suggested that Spurs were below his level, so for that reason alone I would say no way Jose
