Even if things go pear shaped with Jose in a year or two's time, we will have a fantastic squad for the next manager to work with.

Do we? It seems quite short term
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not so short term that we won't have a good squad in two years time.

Plus presumably we will add to the squad over the next few windows.

This refreshing the squad needs to be consistent, not once every 2 or 3 years, that is the issue

I don't think Jose will put up with anything less than that. Could be the reason he leaves somewhere down the line though.

Yep

We have 5 players in the squad over 30 dont we and likely none of them will be here in 2 years.

Couple of 28 year old which really isn't that old and not far off peak age.

Good base of young players too.

Manager is short term but their are shorter term squads than ours out there.

We really have to be winning something or at least challenging with all these strengthenings. It may sound harsh but anything less is probably a failure.

It does feel like this squad needs to win something this season as it’s a very short term squad

All the hype and enthusiasm will be gone if we don’t imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it that short term? Only Bale really but could have couple good years left.
Lots of promising long term elements and over next years the squad can have further necessary surgery.
Definately enthusiasm will be sucked from everyone without a cup again, could be as soon as tomorrow evening
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d say so.

Lloris is mid 30s
Bale might not hit anywhere near what we need
Kane might think fack doing another year here
Reguilón might be bought back by real
Toby & sissoko getting on now.

Plus Mourinho is a short term manager on top of that

Very much we have to win trophies sooner rather than later

Also Vinícius either might suck and be back at Benfica next season with Gedson

Well have to hope Reg loves it here and Madrid dont activate the clause, he may not accept it.

Kane youd hope if we won something will stick around.

Youve just put a negative spin on the 'ifs and buts' rather than see a more positive bigger picture. The squad has a lot of players at their peak, with a mix of talented younger players. Bale adds winning mentality and can lift the squad, even if his quality isn't there. He and Jose are no doubt short term, but overall as a squad spurs are no less long term than the majority of the leagues.

Skipp and Parrott could replace Sissoko and Vinicius for example.

A young RB and GK are needed though.

No doubt it is a trophy season or there is something seriously wrong. A trophy and CL football could help us push further in the right direction or without either a squad could fall apart after its peak and slide backwards further.

Just enjoying game by game atm and happy to actually look forward to our games again.

No I’ve put why it’s a short term squad nothing negative about it.

OK.

We all want the youngest squad in the league and to win stuff with it but it doesn't work that way.

The squad has a very good mix and could have 2 very good seasons at least imo, but with Jose and famous 3rd season syndrome I am skeptical.

Lots looks good for the future though still.

Not sure on Bale starting tomorrow, hopefully he does and gets 60 minutes and comes off when we are 3-0 up

Rondon id assume and yes

Also our team is definitely short term - that’s not a bad thing we need to win something with this crop of remaining players.

We have a nice mix in the team but a lot of crucial players (Kane, Son, Lloris, Alderweireld etc) in the late 20s/30s bracket.

What club in the league has a long term team can I ask?

Who is a long term manager these days?

comment by Phenom (U20037)

That as well.

You have progressive managers which ideally we could grow as a team and win something as but we already fluffed that one

posted on 17/10/20

I think having a slightly older squad and not just signing 20 year-olds is a better long term strategy. Our sole focus should be to win things, then replacing a few every year comes easy. The issue for me in the past has been operating on a buy-to-sell policy where players are moved on as they hit their prime. That constant churn of getting there, then taking two steps back is not something you see at the proper big clubs. I'm glad we're changing how we do things.

Kane looked angry as fack at the final whistle. Anyone who thinks he stays next summer if we don’t win anything is crazy

Wouldnt blame him either. Wouid show the club that constant failure will not be tolerated.

To be fair Kane was pretty poor in the second half. Of course far more blame-worthy players out there.
