Actually change Reggie to an 8. 7 is a bit low.

A winner that Janssen or Nkoudou could have scored though, it was a bit of sitter.

He gets an easy ride because of his name and reputation. He hasn’t been performing at a fitness level of a professional footballer and would have gotten a lot more stick had he been an unknown

Roden N/A
Devine ************** (who?)

Devine has lit up our academy. I’m pretty sure the time he’s 18 he’ll be a main squad player for us.

I’d take him over Sissoko right now

Did Janssen or Nkoudou score any winners in tight games like that?

You're being very harsh. Only played a handful of games with just the 1 start after a spell out with injury, after being in a different league for almost 10 years.

Nkodou put it on a plate for Winks to score a late winner vs Fulham.

Janssen set up Son with a great bit of hold up play for a late winner vs Swansea too from memory.

I’m not being harsh at all, I’m stating the truth and not giving excuses. He has been really bad so far, before the ludogrets game he had literally only provided three minutes of quality and waddled around every game - we have been carrying a player who hasn’t been providing the quality to justify that.

I’m not saying he won’t come good - I’m not even saying that I’m upset with Bale for his performances. I’m just saying, for the reasons you addressed, that he is not of a standard we expect from this club.

I'd take Phenom over Sissoko most days

He’s made only 1 tackle in his 5 appearances for us and 2 interceptions. He averages 20.5 passes a game for us while averaging 1.5 dispossessions/unsuccessful touches a game (albeit these aren’t p90).

Whenever you see us in a defensive phase he is our least hard working player behind Kane, and he is hardly moving around a lot.

He may come good, and his fitness is clearly understandably way off.

Even if Janssen or Nkoudou would have scored it and I don't agree they would have, what difference does it make? It's still a very positive contribution in a game we were struggling in after coming off the bench. Without it I still wouldn't rate him a 3, given that he has been trying to find his rhythm in a new team and get up to match fitness. I mean the idea that we've been "carrying" him after 1 PL start? Come on, mate.

Am I to assume you didn't want him to come back to Spurs?

posted on 9/11/20

What difference it makes is I wouldn’t use it as an argument for. Much like the fact that I would never have given Nkoudou, Njie or Janssen a high rating despite the fact that they all have provided one quality moment for us.

Had he not scored that goal what would you have given him then? Provided he has provided little else and his inadequate performance contributed to WHU drawing with us.

I sat on the fence about him coming back to spurs.

If he didn’t score that goal my 5 would’ve dropped to 3 tbf

Yes but it's only been 6 games for him and not all starts, whereas we have the hindsight of Janssen's and Nkoudou's spells at Spurs being over and they were largely dreadful. A goal is the best contribution a player can make on the pitch and it was a winner. Even if he had been shocking for the rest of his time so far, and he hasn't been (more just average), he still doesn't deserve a rating as low as a 3. Are you not cutting him any slack for trying to regain his fitness?

Without the goal I'd give him maybe no lower than 4.5.

posted on 9/11/20

Why would I cut him some slack? The rating is based on his performances - not a subjective nuance that only seems applicable for Bale.

You really think he has been average? He’s been terrible (goal aside), again this is the name/reputation dictating the performances. Before the Ludogrets game he had literally only had three good moments for us - a goal a, a good cross that created a calamitous own goal and a nice bit of play before a (arguably) bad miss against WHU albeit there is an argument for a foul. Aside from that he has misplaced so many touches, he doesn’t track back or offer anything in defence (crucial in the modern game) and he has barely had any influence on the game otherwise. I thought the Ludogrets game he looked a bit better with some nice passes but aside from that his fitness levels and running performances aren’t of Premier League standard; which means his performance has replicated that

Because his lack of games in the last year along with his brief injury before starting for us make it more understandable why his performances haven't been so good. The longer it goes on, obviously the more you can't excuse it, but after only 6 appearances so far, it's harsh, and there are signs his work rate on the pitch is gradually improving.

But most of all, the goal should make a difference in how people are rating him and not be dismissed as something that anyone could have done, because if it were that easy we would have scored a lot more goals the last few games.

we all know Janssen or N'koudou wouldnt have scored that

i agree to an extent, but the big name can lift the dressing room and being brought on to be capable of the quality finish to win us games otherwise we may not is exactly why the signing is a good one. But he isnt a starter and likely never should be in first choice XI.

Reguilon - 8/10 - a fine buy, feel like he'll only get better as he plays more games

Hojbjerg - 8.5/10 - added much needed stability in the middle for us, wouldn't mind seeing some goals and assists added

Bale - 6.5/10 - Not much of an impression so far, only just got back so it's too early to tell

Doherty - 6/10 - inconsistent start for him in a new role in a back 4, hope he settles as he plays more

Hart - 6/10 - Has looked tidy when sitting in for Hugo, looks to have a good attitude around the training ground also

Vinicius - 6/10 - Feel a bit bad for him, debut he was superb, only going to get occasional appearances here and there, hope he gets off the mark

Tbh I took the ratings as performance ratings. I don’t think nuances matter at the end of the day. If Aurier had a shocker last year after his brother died I would still say he has had a shocker - there is an understandable reason why the shocker occurred but it doesn’t deviate from the truth.

Even Ali Dia almost scored a goal when he played, doesn’t mean that he was a load of fraudulent shiiiiiiit even if he did score .

It’s been one goal, not really anything to change my mind. Had he scored 3 or 4 and put in similar performances I think my rating would be a lot more harsh

posted on 9/11/20

Gave him an extra .5 for the winning goal, that’s about it. Suppose Doherty did set up the winner on Sunday though.

Other then that not too impressed by either.

I'd go with that.

Though it seems harsh to rate Vinicius given his lack of minutes with the first team. I'd have liked to see him start yesterday.
