Many credible journalists out there, the idea that "journos" only write for clicks is nonsense, yes there's an element of it but any decent writer won't just mnake stuff up that could damage their reputation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see your point, but can’t really comment on any of them, as I’m not up to speed on them. Hence the genuine question in the op.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't be familiar with the local lads in Manchester but for Liverpool for example there's several journalists who are credible, the Echo is generally good and doesn't publish stuff without their being something behind it.

I listened to a good podcast a while ago where writes from the Echo were saying that there is so much contact between clubs going on constantly that it's difficult to decide what to publish, therefore there is always the chance they will get it wrong, deals can fall apart so quickly etc.

There are a few key steps to success:

1. Vague headline. Do not mention the player in question (call them a star or an ace)

2. Include a misleading picture. Make sure to include someone like Messi or Ronaldo standing next to the player in question

3. Make it seem like it’s Ronaldo or Messi or such you are talking about in the headline

4. Make article one word per page over 15 pages so you have to click next

5. Use poor grammar and spelling
6. ???????
7. ££££££££££££

I’ve said this before but can’t stand Miguel Delaney. He’s managed to convince people he’s a quality journalist but he’s as clueless as the tabloids.

I think he's good when talking about football itself but I don't listen to him on transfers, he's also a bit abbrasive on twitter and talks down to people.

Yes I agree with you there. He’s very good at analyzing a game but with transfers he doesn’t have a clue.

Ever notice he never says anything definite so if it doesn’t go through he can back track on it.

Yes he doesn’t seem like a very nice man at times and talks down to people who question his transfer stories or anyone who calls him out when they are wrong.

I'm sure there's some utter fabrication out there but suspect that in most cases major media outlets report stories based on actual sources. Where they really let themselves and their readers down is when they report these uncritically and lend credence to what they know very well is probably baseless, albeit concocted by a third party. They know the murky world of football well enough, with agents and clubs putting out false stories to raise the value of their assets, and hangers on 'close to the player' hungry for attention. But you're more likely to read the sentence "this has been a really good discussion, RDD" on JA606 than come across a media outlet saying "we've heard this but in our view, there's a strong probability it's rubbish".

I think a lot of it is just made up. Like Salah being linked to United in the MEN. Clickbait rubbish.

The Manchester Evening News reporters normally aren't far off, unfortunately the page itself does tend to just put up every single rumour going, but the reporters themselves seem relatively well informed.

Another example of Miguel Delaney’s drivel that many seem to lap up.
