Don't suppose you get out on your bike much Winston
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't anymore as it's too dangerous. Drivers are out of control.

Just seems massively unsafe to be cycling on a road 1 handed while texting or looking something up on your phone, don't know if people actually do it or not but I just assumed if someone was spotted they'd be given a fine or something.

Anyone got the stats on car drivers killed by cyclists?

posted on 25/6/19

Mike (U1170)

Oh yeh, it's idiotic!

Just not illegal. I suppose it's like pedestrians crossing the road on the phone... stupid but only really a danger to the person doing it.

Well maybe you should review my comments in the context of the debate I'm having.

-----------------------

Do you or do you not acknowledge that cyclists can be hazardous to others if they don't abide by the rules of the road?

Its a simply question.

Very Piers Morgan of you.

You're framing the debate into something that wasn't even being discussed.

Of course cyclists can be hazardous to others. Very rarely though, which is why when the subject of licensing comes up you have to look at more than the simplistic question you have just asked.

Yep, and people carrying ladders can be hazardous as well.

Let's licence people who carry ladders.

The bloke who cleaned the windows in the street where I used to live used to carry his ladders whilst riding his bike

I saw a black person crossing the path without looking and wearing headphones. Couldn't hear my bell cos of his loud music. That has happened a lot with black people actually. I am not saying all black people are the same but I do think it is time to license them so they can be held equally as accountable. You have to admit that they can be a hazard.

Equally shocking, I saw a ginger person doing pretty much the same, he just wandered into the road listening to the proclaimers on his alba Walkman whilst chomping on shortbread, dropping crumbs everywhere

Ruined a perfectly unreasonable debate.

posted on 25/6/19

As I said earlier on, very rarely does anyone with anti cyclist views accept the flaws in their opinion and so it has proven on this thread.

Instead, you offer reasoned problems/objections to the idea of licensing and all you get in return is accusations of defending law breaking cyclists. Utter nonsense.

This morning on my 10 mile cycle I witnessed -

2 cars jumping red lights
1 car & 1 lorry in the cycle lane
3 cars turning without indicators on
1 woman walk out on me without looking
1 car stop in middle of the road to check phone
0 cyclists jump lights
1 hoodrat on a boris bike on the pavement

Get off your high horses humans are morons in all modes of transport stop singling out cyclists ffs
