Concern about Training Methods

Clearly nonsense. There's plenty of footage knocking about of training sessions and there's plenty of footballs on show.

So, the "foreign contingent" at the club called ESPN to express their concerns about fitness a few days into pre-season
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Or more likely one of them told their mate and it was passed on.

To be honest, these players need to do some running if Ole wants to make them fitter.

The majority of the footage/pictures I've seen has been ball work as well.

I've also read that Daniel James (from a championship club) has come back in the best shape, perhaps showing how unfit the players were before.

No doubt that idiot dutchman Raymond Verheijen will crawl out the woodwork about this.

Yeah, they left the usual people and went to ESPN.

Sounds legit

James' fitness has been very impressive by all accounts but lets be honest, just because he was a championship player doesnt mean he shouldnt be as fit as everyone else or in this case fitter.

these foreigners need to remember that we voted for them to LEAVE if they don't like are culture then off you pop

ESPN has claimed that certain members of the squad are 'concerned' that the manager has based his pre-season preparations on fitness.

The 'foreign contingent', it is claimed, believe that his 'British' methods are old school and not enough importance is being placed on ball work.

We are not clamouring back for "Ole out" again, are we?

Next it will be, United want Poch?

Going in circles?

Dont buy this. It's week one of pre-season training and it doesnt matter what level youre at it's standard to just be fitness sessions in the main. It's supposed to be hard.

posted on 10/7/19

If there's anything at all in this it's probably that one of the players has said something along the lines of 'We've never been worked so hard in pre-season before. I'm looking forward to actually playing football'.

If they are working hard though I'm pleased. It should pay off when the season starts.

No, we're not.

It is impossible to simulate the type of running needed for football anyway. It is better to just play the game. Fitness comes as a side effect.

Can't say I agree with this at all.

All PL teams have outstanding fitness anyway.

...

No they do not as was quite clearly evidenced by us last season.

You have to be at a certain level of fitness to begin with before match fitness will kick in.

All of last season we were close to bottom of the stats for ground covered during the game.

posted on 10/7/19

The squads lack of fitness was evident last year, especially towards the end. Ole has made us press more, and we do need to up the fitness.

Hoody is actually talking sense here.

There will be fall out this season as a new system is implemented and by Feb/Mar time, Ole should know which players are not going to fit in.

Whether his system is the right one for the club remains to be seen, but this is all fairly standard when there is a change in regime.

Yeah, its most likely nonsense.

If there is any truth to it though, there is no way any of our squad can be annoyed with intense fitness work. Some of their fitness levels are an absolute disgrace to be honest. Particularly Lukaku, who has the lung capacity of a bed-bound 90 year old with COPD.

Indeed bloodred. If there is any truth to this it will be that fat lazy who breaks into a sweat tying up his boot laces.

Saying that ball work is very much required with him.

How dare you say that about our "sergeant on the pitch".

The squad lacks stamina, so I am sure that they will be working on that in preseason. However, I seriously doubt that Ole will be hammering the players with fitness from the start of preseason. Modern sport science shows that it is much better to start off slowly in preseason and build the players' fitness up so that they are in peak physical condition for the start of the season. 2 weeks of solid fitness at the beginning of preseason are a thing of the past.

Think about it. You only get netter at what you repeatedly do. But the things that you repeatedly do are also the only things you get better at.

So if you run in a straight line you get better at running in a straight line. You do not get much netter at running sideways.

In football you almost never have the same movement Pattern for longet than a few seconds. You are always turning, sprinting, Jogging, standing. What drill can you come up with that encorporates all those movements better than just playing the game itself?

The worst thing you can do is long runs back and forwards at a medium pace because that almost never happens in a football match. You train yourself to become good at that type of running, not at playing football.

There are all sorts of drills that they do to replicate in game movements/conditions. I see videos of them all the time.

Hippo

Is that what you think people do in training? Just long runs?

Sorry but this is just not true.

Managers like Klopp and Pochettino focus a lot on fitness because of the pressing style they want to employ.

That has to involve training.
