Is that really what we have to console ourselves with? That it could be worse? That at least we're not in the same boat as Newcastle United?

Jesus. How humiliating is that? This is not what was supposed to happen.

Well you said you were almost at rock bottom, and you'd honestly have a fair bit to go for that. You're coming off the back of a season in which you reached a Europa League final and narrowly missed top 4. It's like a little better than what we were were experiencing a few years ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem is, all the other top clubs look like they are moving forward now whereas we are not doing enough to make the necessary changes if we want to remain with the pack.

Spurs have smashed their transfer record and can beat us for players. United have the budget to outspend us 5 times over. City are buying players and looking to improve even when they've won B2B titles. Liverpool have a well-balanced squad as it is and a top manager. Even Chelsea, though they have a transfer ban this Summer, will have £200m+ to spend next Summer, so they'll still be a threat.

Everton, Wolves, Leicester and West Ham are all showing more ambition to break into the current top 6.

If our fortunes do not change drastically and imminently, we are going to be finishing between 8th - 10th in the coming years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have signed a big player but have not done much else and it's gone a bit quiet with us at the moment when there's more work to be done.

Will be hard to predict how Man United and Chelsea do with newer managers. They might fail in their jobs.

Yes the teams below the top 6 may be a threat, but could be a threat to a few of us, not just Arsenal. With more money running through the league now, the right sort of investment combined with the lack of European football could see one of these teams outside the top 6 take advantage sooner rather than later.

Spurtle,

If any of Leicester, Wolves, Everton or West Ham were to displace one of the current top 6 sides, logically speaking, which side would you say is most at risk?

Probably Arsenal as things stand but I wouldn't bet on them over United or Chelsea. I do think we're currently better than these 3 even if the table said differently last season.
