Live - a game that takes 748 years to finish..Fack the ashes, Fack test cricket.

Ashes hasn’t got a hope in hell of coming anywhere near the excitement of yesterday.

That shows that you clearly have no idea about cricket then. The Ashes has always been and will continue to be the pinnacle for Eng and Aus fans. Can not wait!

Meh.

Takes too long and is super boring.

Imo the world cup was the priority this summer. However, an ashes win too and it has been the greatest year in English cricket history

World cup before a series every time. You are the world champions and not a winner of a series between 2 teams. Not been a decent Ashes since 2005. It's always one sided and England will win this 4-0.

Let’s smash the Aussies

I hope it’s a good series

The world cup is great and was exciting, but for me test match cricket, as the name says, is the greatest test of cricketing technique and will always be the greatest measure of how good a team is.

1st August = Yorkshire Day - look out for stellar performances from the White Rose guys - Bairstow, Root and Rashid . . . (and the rest of the team of course )

I can't see the Ashes topping the excitement from yesterday but it should still provide some gripping entertainment. The crowd will be even more up for it with Smith and Warner being involved.

I'd be amazed if this was a one sided contest though. The consistency of our one day team and what our best XI is meant I'd forgotten how much of a mess our test team is. You could name 5 possibly 6 players who will definitely play but the rest of the positions are up for grabs.

Ironically the WC will have helped the Aussies to adapt to English conditions so I too do not expect it to be one sided like the 2017 series where England didn't really do the necessary prep work down under.

ODIs can be fun but I'll always go for Test cricket.

I have no doubt that Roy and Archer have played their way into the Ashes squad, so we'll see how they go.

Wood, Leach, Foakes, Curran in the squad

Roy will struggle against the red ball but England have tried everyone else so why not.

Sibley will come into the side I reckon. Has been doing very well all season and is doing well for the Lions. Roy may well bat at 3 but could well stick with Denley for now. Expect Burns to retain his place for now.

Lots of bowling options and honestly don't know how we'll go. Woakes may well get the nod with it being at Edgbaston with Broad and Anderson but could see anyone from Wood, Curran and Archer included instead of any of the above (if Anderson isn't fit).

Lots of competition for places, especially in the top 3 of the batting order. Decisions to be made with the bowlers also, picking from Anderson, Broad, Wood, Woakes, Archer, Moeen, Rashid and Curran.

Certain to play are probably Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Anderson, Broad and Buttler, so possibly 5 places still up for grabs.

I don't think Roy will be a great success at test match level but he has to play due to lack of options. Yesterday gave a glimpse into how much more difficult it is when it swings.
