I hope we sign Romaine, I hear he is a little gem and goes like a rocket.

Ok I'm sorry.

Oh Lordy!

Be very surprised to see any new signings unless Roofe or Phillips go

A shame as I think we're 2 players short.

Some say it's Bielsa's choice to have a small squad and others saying it's Radz trying to get promotion on the cheap.

Either way, I think we'll end up regretting it.

Athletic midfielder with presence. Would improve us and gives us a lot in such a non entity midfield.

So that means Rad will buy a 17 year from Uzbekistan.

Non-entity midfield? Thought our midfield dominated the vast majority of games last year.

Sawyers always looked a good player to me when i’ve Seen him. Like for like with Phillips. When I heard we might be interested assumed it was replacement if Phillips left.

As said... yiu’d Think we’d have tied it in to Jansson deal if we were always after him

Love to see him signed but cant see it happening now, think our business is done apart from trying to get the last few pieces of deadwood out the door. Sad thing is every man and his dog can see we need a top CH with lots of pace and another n10 apart from MB who it seems learned nothing from last year and looks as though he intends to handicap us in the same way this year.

Sawyers is a good player. Where does he fit into our team though?

We have Phillips and Forshaw for the 4, Klich and Shackleton/Bogusz for the 8 and Pablo and Roberts for the 10.

We know Bielsa favours a small squad and players to cover multiple positions. I doubt he would see Sawyers as necessary

I would advocate Sawyers in and shifting Forshaw.

As has been said above I very much hope this isn’t our recruitment done.

Not expecting any further signings, said as much on 14th July, love to be proved wrong but only if signings improve what we have.
Actually don't think we need a huge amount either. What we need is players who don't fall to pieces whenever someone comes anywhere near them.
Keep the squad as we have it and as near fit as you can and we will do OK this year.

that would be okay, but we probably wouldn't be able to shift forshaw and we were clearing the deadwood so well.

Interesting comments from Orta on Philips regarding no negotiations.

How many games did our great midfield get cut open? A LOT post January.

Took time to read the article, it doesn't say anything about Phillips or Orta Jonty, are you talking implied comment rather than actual comments?
Also the English in the article is very poor. Not sure I give it much credibility to be honest.

Els, just read the Orta comments elsewhere, found it really strange that he said no negotiations with Philips.

posted on 23/7/19

Can you post the link, you may well have done it elsewhere, I am assuming Orta saying the club is not prepared to renegotiate with Phillips' agent but may well be that Phillips is drawing the line in the sand.

Now that you have all the players in that you want, the players leaving is the big fear for fans. So, Kalvin Phillips, you are well aware how important he is. How do you see those negotiations going?

There is no negotiations. The player is a Leeds United player and will be a Leeds United player in the 2019/20 season.

Does this mean they're prepared to just run the contract down, assuming that what we have is enough to get promotion and that when we get promoted it will be easy enough to put new contract to Philips?

posted on 23/7/19

Not sure the article actually says very much to be honest Jonty.

I like the quote "You brought in people like Helder Costa, who've got big reputations". Helder Costa and who else?

Angus kinnear said negotiations had commenced with Philips at the live Aussie events.
However he also said we don’t want to sell our best players days after jansson has left
They are all full of billy bs

“There is no negotiations. The player is a Leeds United player and will be a Leeds United player in the 2019/20 season.”

You are confident he will resign this summer?

“100 per cent confident. I am confident. Leeds United want Kalvin Phillips next year, 100 per cent.”

And you are confident, in your personal opinion, that Kalvin will sign?

“Yes, personally, as Victor Orta, I believe.”

Sounds to me like negotiations have ended, the offer is on the table and he expects him to sign.

However if some fool offers £20m + then I expect him to be sold.

How many times, did sides exploit the space behind our advanced fullbacks? Quite a bit.

How often were we outplayed all season?... a handful at most. Nothing wrong with the midfield Mike, in my opinion, far more pressing things to resolve.

Sports Journalist David Anderson has reported that Leeds have no interest whatsoever in Brentford playmaker Romaine Sawyers. Normally the Daily Mirror sports writer is a reliable source. It would also explain why Leeds didn't look at a swap deal involving Jansson.
