And we will sort out a trade deal and border issues with the country who can’t sort out a trade deal or borders with Europe?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So we stay in the union because the largest country in that union is totally incompetent.
Is that your argument??? Really!!!
As you say, give me strength.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not in the slightest.
I’m saying all the things you and others mock about people wanting to leave the EU apply equally if not more to Scots wanting to leave the UK.
It’s hypocritical to suggest otherwise.
In fact it might even be worse for Scotland. No major trading partner and hard borders if they want to join a trading pact with a bloc of European countries who will demand their fishing waters as an absolute minimum.
No forces to speak of and far lower standards of living because of all of the above.
I happen to believe in independence but I’m not daft enough to think there wouldn’t be many years of decline and hardship as a result.
And it may never get better.

I think the thing that damaged the indy campaign was the unwillingness to accept any potential negative outcomes. It's naïve to think that everything will be wonderful post indy. There will be challenges.
What's important is to be able to show how we would navigate those choppy waters and bring the good ship Scotland to safe waters afterwards. What people need is a plan, but also a plan they can have confidence in.
And that's the difference between the two situations. There is no semblance of a plan in the UKs departure from the EU. It's based on hope and optimism and that doesn't wash.
I actually think that in light of my above post, we're in a stronger position now. We have a clear plan to avoid the harm that is being done - join the EU. They want us. They're courting us even now. Our admittance will be almost guaranteed.
Then we'll be part of one of the largest trading blocs that will give us access to a variety of different markets on favourable terms, it'll give us help and support where needed (see Ireland) and also, quite wonderfully, if Ginger is indeed correct and post Brexit the UK and the EU hammer out a mutually beneficial deal then we'll have access to the UK market too.
It all adds up to a positive outcome for Scotland.

We can’t export or import more than we do already to Europe but we can lose most of our trade with the rest of the UK should we split. We already trade with Ireland. Do you genuinely believe that we will mulitppe our trade by a factor of ten should we get independence and go into the EU who have shown not one sign that they’d entertain us on our own let alone Westminster allowing us to? The maths just doesn’t work.
And yes the EU are our masters sorry to say.

I think I'm right in saying that we've been increasing our exports to the EU (I'm going to guess at around 6%, would need to check) in the last year or so, so obviously yes we can increase our trade. We can also grow trade in other areas of the world - South America has just signed a trade agreement and as with everywhere our whisky is extremely popular there.
Obviously maintaining trade with England, Wales and NI is important and we would need to work hard to preserve what we have with them - that's why we'd need sensible solutions from both governments. Again though, I'd expect to seamlessly move into the framework already agreed between the rUK and the EU which should lessen the impact of that in the medium to long term.
Also worth noting that you would expect England does a decent amount of trade with Scotland and would want that to continue too. I have no idea on the numbers so feel free to shoot this argument down.
