Strange window for the big six

A lot of business is done in the last week. Clubs are also getting used to the new window, which gives foreign clubs more power.

City and Liverpool didnt need much anyway. Obviously Chelsea are banned.

The other 3 have had poor windows so far IMO. Despite all making some good signings, all still have some pretty glaring problem areas with less than a week to go

Liverpool are the biggest losers I reckon, despite their success last year no team should sit on their hands and not freshen up the side over the summer. Fergie never did it when he was winning trebles and it’s what made him the greatest of all time.

Maybe they'll finally utilise their strong youth systems and give young players the chances they need? That would be a real positive for the English game and stop your best youths heading to Germany.

Fergie didnt always get it right though. One of the worst things he did was buy Berbatov the season after Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez and conquered Europe.

They probably could have added a bit more quality in midfield but you look at that squad and there isn't much for them to do.

Liverpool require depth, however I'm sure Klopp will look to his reserve squad to find potential gems.

They don't need to spend £50m+, just to have someone sit on the bench.

City and Liverpool are well into their manager's projects. If Klopp and Guardiola had taken over this summer then obviously there would be loads of business done. They have pretty much built their machines and just need a few tweaks here and there and a few minor replacements.

We don't really have a long term project.

Arsenal still building under Emery so have spent a bit again as they did last summer.

Don't care about Chelsea.

disagree, they haven't got much depth in the striker position and their midfield is very average as well. They could do with a marquee signing there.

Could maybe have done with a forward but our midfield is absolutely fine.

Real Madrid have done this in recent years too and caught up with them last season and now they look a mess.

Would be great if the big clubs start showing some resistance to the high fees being asked for but I somehow doubt it will happen and we'll see a last minute panic.

Their midfield does exactly the job it's supposed to.

They could have maybe added someone with a bit more quality but they also have to weigh that up out against the risk of upsetting the balance they already have there - which was my point about Berbatov.

The forward positions, yeah, they probably could do with another one in the squad.

Liverpool have Fabinho and Keita in their 2nd season and Ox back from injury. Add Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum and there is no need at all for a midfielder.
Striker, maybe. But if they want Brewster to step up then no need to buy anyone. Harry Wilson may step up as well.

The PL need to scrap the window closing early as well, it's a good idea if the leagues round Europe also followed suit but wtf is the point of having 3 weeks of players being hovered around by other clubs and unsettling them in the process? It should've been put back to the 31st before the window opened.

I just feel with Liverpool there’s a good few players there that they would struggle to replace if they picked up a long term injury.

City have proved this isn’t the case with them.

A pretty standard window for a club like United that won't make top four this season.

Liverpool's situation is very different to that of United and Arsenal in particular.

City, Spurs and Liverpool have all had their managers in long term and have players who suit their style (for the most part).

Poch is the 5th longest serving manager in PL + Football League, Klopp 8th and Guardiola 16th.

Out of those it's Spurs you'd expect to be making the most acquisitions though as they've not bought for so long and their league form last season suffered for it.

Liverpool have big players who didn't feature much last term and ones that you'd expect bigger things of during their second season so you can understand why they've not done much.

Chelsea are a special case.

OP, it's a much quieter window if you ignore half the transfers!

City is 2 not 1: Angelino (£5.3m), Rodri (£62.6m)
Liverpool is 2 not 0: Van Den Berg (£1.3m), Elliot (hardly noteworthy though)
Chelsea 1
Spurs is 2 not 1: Ndombele, Clarke (£10m)
Arsenal is 3 + 1 loan not 1+1; Pepe, Saliba (£27m), Martinelli (£6m), Cabellos (Loan)
United 2

I meant players that will actually play regularly this season. Maybe that Angelino lad will but the rest have been either loaned back or are very young kids that won’t play much.

I expect United to do more in coming week.

I think United will surprise a few this year and provided they get those transfers done, they could rival Liverpool and Spurs

Wouldn’t get that carried away yet but I think we’ll have a better season than last term.

Op

I wouldn't even have us down as two. I think James will be a work in progress, not a first team player.
