Op

I wouldn't even have us down as two. I think James will be a work in progress, not a first team player.

I think he’s raw and far from the finished article but pre season suggests he’ll see plenty of football this season

No value in the market! Plus top 4 did very well last year so there's no real urgency to change. Arsenal and us only teams under pressure to make signings, with Chelsea banned. So nothing strange really...

I expect United to do more in coming week.

I think United will surprise a few this year and provided they get those transfers done, they could rival Spurs

OP, it's a much quieter window if you ignore half the transfers!

City is 2 not 1: Angelino (£5.3m), Rodri (£62.6m)
Liverpool is 2 not 0: Van Den Berg (£1.3m), Elliot (hardly noteworthy though)
Chelsea 1
Spurs is 2 not 1: Ndombele, Clarke (£10m)
Arsenal is 3 + 1 loan not 1+1; Pepe, Saliba (£27m), Martinelli (£6m), Cabellos (Loan)
United 2

I meant players that will actually play regularly this season. Maybe that Angelino lad will but the rest have been either loaned back or are very young kids that won’t play much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah clark probably won't even play too much for leeds. this elliot kid looks really composed for a 16 year old.

..............

Good attempt there kid. You are not even remotely close to Liverpool.

Based on one season? Check again how many seasons in the last 5 years have Spurs been above them?

This was not a wum but of course, silly facts like you think so
Ok United will get overtaken by Wolves is that what you want me to say 🙄

Liverpool not strengthening surprises me as they were so close to the title, someone like coutinho coming back may bridge that small gap. Plus Liverpool benefitted from having their big players stay injury free for much of last season, so an extra quality player could make the difference.

United’s problem is that with only Europa footy, the elite players aren’t queuing up, so United are shopping at the next level and getting quoted insane prices by clubs hoping they are desperate.

City don’t really need to spend more than they have. Chelsea can’t.

Arsenal are gambling, they are committing a lot of money to be paid off in the future in the hope they can get into the CL this year. The problem is that they haven’t addressed their weakest area, defence.

Spurs are notoriously slow movers in the market, there are obvious weaknesses that need to be addressed this week or the top 4 will start looking precarious. If by the end of the window we have 2 of Eriksen/Fernandes/Lo Celso then I would say we are a banker for top 4.

Based on last season.

If you want to be a tool and base it on the season before, please note we were above you.

Maybe Klopp doesn't want to upset the balance of his team.

Their midfield is average for a top team, they could definitely add a couple of new additions there.

What on earth do the previous five years have to do with the two clubs in the present day? Last season is the best barometer to use as it stands, and this showed we are much better than Tottenham, as we beat them twice in the league, finished way ahead of them in the league, and then to top it off beat them again in the Champions League final. Plus our teams are very similar to those of last season right now.

Interesting debate that.

On one hand, you can make the case that Spurs are competitive with Liverpool and that one season doesn't change that. Liverpool's squad is arguably prone to weakness if big players are missing and Spurs look set to strengthen more than Liverpool this summer.

But on the flip side you could argue the opposite. Last season looked like a major step forward for Liverpool - with key signings having been the key, really. Currently you won't find many people predicting them to finish below Spurs.

Should be interesting to see what happens but must say, I'm surprised Klopp hasn't brought in reinforcements. Maybe the kids are developing so well that he doesn't need to. Origi being the main one to watch in that regard.

............

Their midfield works in harmony with the defence and attack.

That is why the were close to City and won the CL. Bring in someone better and that may throw a spanner in the works.

Nothing wrong with our midfield. Plenty of different options.

It's not often I agree with the Liverpool fans, but we're a long way behind them at the moment. As a United fan it's not ideal, but football goes in cycles and they've made good decisions over a period of time which we have not.

They've just got 97 points in the league which is an unreal number a champions league win and a champions league final the year before. It's a very simplistic way of looking at a team thinking, they dont have a Modric or a KDB or a Kante etc and think it's an average midfield. Ultimately, the players they have perfectly suit their style of play, they win the ball back quick and move it forward fast to their front 3 which is all they need to do.

Liverpool are the biggest losers I reckon, despite their success last year no team should sit on their hands and not freshen up the side over the summer. Fergie never did it when he was winning trebles and it’s what made him the greatest of all time.
