Basically what I want to know is how high would you rank winning the PL unbeaten when compared to winning it with at least one other major trophy?

---

1. Winning league and CL
2. Winning league and Europa
3. Winning league and FA Cup
4. Winning league unbeaten
5. Winning league and league cup

Only because no-one really puts their first team into the league cup these days until at least the quarter finals .
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah I think that is a fair ranking. I was just curious as to what people thought.

I agree with that VC, but we were asked about a team that won the league and did not lose a game. Only been done once before, decades ago. .

It's a great achievement, but Citys treble is greater

I thought Chelsea getting 95 points was more impressive than arsenals unbeaten season anyway tbh.

I think the 114 point season would top them all though.

52

But when you look at it in that perspective it just doesn't rank with winning multiple trophies.

You are on your own here with this one.

That's still one more time than the other though

But the 84 treble has never been done before or since. Ditto the 99 treble. Ditto the 2019 treble.

I would agree with Meltonblue that I feel Chelsea's 05 season was better than Arsenal's. Lost one game in the league (6 overall - same as Arsenal) but got 95 points and won the league cup.

Well I've been wrong often enough before. But I do think it's been downplayed. We've never got near it. Still luckily it's only opinion.

I don't think it has been downplayed either though has it manu? The invincibles has stuck as a term and that season is talked about a lot more than the Chelsea one I mentioned

They could not win trebles when I were nobbut a lad. No league cup or European football. But there has always been the league.

Only Arsenal fans seem to think it's special though Melts. Still I bow to others opinion.

I still think it's very special, particularly the way he assembled that team (they're the only team to win the league that didn't have a wage bill in the top three at the time), just others have done very special things too

Do you have any evidence for that. Only Chelsea and United were likely to have higher wage bills than Arsenal that year. Liverpool maybe but I can't see it.

Also, what about leicester?

I'll have to do some digging again, I remember reading it at the time (it might have been in soccernomics).

And you're right sorry, that was up to Leicester doing it.

It's a unique and incredible acheivement rather than proof the team was up there with the best sides of all time - over the season the "invincibles" weren't a historically outstanding side.

In fact we, Arsenal, have arguably had better sides than that. City certainly have, again arguably Chelsea, United and Liverpool have as well but the acheivement is still huge.

United's trebel side wasn't their best but they acheived the most.

This City side are unbelievably good in the League but it's very much a tale of buying success rather than some sort of almost miraculous acheivement which Uniteds youth based side winning the treble was and Leicesters league win. I'd wager both of those campaigns along with the Arsenal unbeaten season will live far longer in the memory because they're far bigger achievements when taken in context.

that is true greatness

Oooooo good debate. For me it goes on this order:

1. Man Utd Treble
2. Man City Treble
3. Arsenal invincibles

Now, you could argue that Man City’s current team are better than the Utd one and I’d agree with you. But the achievement of the greatest prize in the domestic game AND the greatest prize in Europe tops the domestic treble as an achievement.

With regards to the invincibles, Liverpool could have gone the whole of last season unbeaten and won nothing (incredible but true). So yes it was incredible, but it’s about trophy’s in this game, not statistics.

Again, good discussion though and I can understand other’s views.

Hard to compare, both are great achievements. I think I would just go with the unbeaten as I think it's only been done once before, and a long time ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

To me it isn't hard to compare. City's domestic treble is far superior to a league unbeaten season.

It just is.

In my mind there isn't even a debate to be had.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly, I am not even sure what the debate is about.
